BC PROVINCIAL PARTY SURVEY: All parties have been polled as to their feelings as to C-68. At this only the provincial BC Reform Party are supporting our stand and without reservations. Bear this in mind when the provincial elections are called. Let's repeat the success in Ontario. We can do it. We do have the swing vote. SENATE HEARINGS ACROSS CANADA PC members of the senate will be travelling across the country to hear you. Priority will be given to those who asked to be heard in Ottawa and were refused but others will be accepted so get your requests in as soon as possible. Contact the following: Maritimes - Senator John Buchanan Ontario - Senator Marjorie LeBreton Manitoba - Senator Terrance Stratton Saskatchewan - Senator David Thachuk Alberta - Senator Ron Ghitter British Columbia - Senator Gerry St. Germain These, and others in your area may be contacted at 1-800-267-7362. Be sure to ask for a PC senator in your province because it appears that the Liberals will not participate. Interesting is the fact that the Liberal senators are attempting to force an early report from the committee. Early enough, in fact, to preclude these hearings from being held. Obviously the Liberal senators have had their orders from Chretien/Rock to do anything possible to stop a fair hearing. Sound familiar? Let the senators know what you feel about this tactic also. CANADIAN POLICE ASSOCIATION QUOTE In the fall edition "Issue 33" of their "CPA Express" magazine, at page 8, in a brief article entitled "C-68 (Firearms)", the Canadian Police Association told its membership this: "The enforcement objections put forward (by the Canadian Police Association) were not acted on and the Justice Department candidly admitted that this was because our proposals would result in more gun-toting criminals going to jail more often and for longer periods of time, which would cost too much money." It is appalling that the Justice Department has no interest in keeping "gun-toting criminals" in prison and off the street. It has been conclusively proven that career criminals pose a far greater cost to society during periods while they are on the street than they do during periods when they are serving time inside a prison. It seems that Mr. Rock's Deparment has no appreciation for the raw economics of crime preferring to deal only with the budget of his department. After all, his budget is far more important than protecting victims from "gun-toting criminals." Yet he is prepared to cost the effectively bankrupt Canadian economy abotu 41.5 billion to control you and I for NO gain in safety for Canadians. THE NEXT FEDERAL ELECTION CAMPAIGN HAS BEGUN For as long as you can remember, Liberal and Conservative governments refused to treat the Canadian firearms community with respect. They regarded all our organizations as a herd of huge, stupid dinosaurs, so non-political and unsophiticated that we were their favorite targets. We never carried the fight onto their turf. The recent Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan provincial elections have reworked the minds of intelligent politicians. They now regard us as the largest single block of voters in Canada - a bloc that will change the way it votes, the party its members join or support, and the political sach it donates on the basis of who offers us the best firearms control position. Those three provincial elections were the beginning of a revolution in how Canadian elections are operated. The National Firearms Association has spent the last 11 years training and educating Canadian firearms community members in political action. Here is your next step towards political power. The next election has not been called, but it may come as soon as next spring. Parties are doing little to prepare - yet - but we are already running full bore in our campaign. Politicians know all about election lawn signs, and the impact they have on elections - but have never seen election signs so early. The NFA wants to see our election signs on members' lawns, on street corners, and along the roads - ON THE DAY THE ELECTION IS CALLED. Our goal is to have 500,000 signs in the hands of members and supporters on the day the election is called, ready to put out. The signs (black on an attractive bright green) say: "REMEMBER BILL C-68 WHEN YOU VOTE" The signs are plastic bags, printed on both sides. Tack a sheet of cardboard to a stick, upend the bag over the cardboard (keeps it dry!), and pound it into the lawn. Suggestion: Take one over to your local MP's lawn or office every so often... The signs will mean little to those who don't care about firearms control or oppose us, so they will have little negative impact. On the otherhand, they will activate every firearms owning family in Canada - a total of 7 million voters. One beauty of our sign is that it does not tie us to any political party: It builds opposition to the parties that injure the Canadian firearms community, and support for those that support our community. We are asking every firearms-related club in Canada to buy and stockpile these signs. When YOUR club has a few bucks to spare, use them to increase the hard-won political clout that has now stalled C-68 in the Senate. Every sign you buy will be reportted through the political network, adding pressure as politicians realize that we are effective and politically active over this issue - but the "anti-firearms majority" are not. Politicians already know that the firearms community can vote. Now they must learn that we can and campaign.
