REGISTRATION OF FIREARMS AND CARS NOT THE SAME THING
BREITKREUZ ASKS PROVINCE TO CHALLENGE GUN CONTROL LAWS
Yorkton - On October 22nd Prime Minister Jean Chretien made the following statement, "I believe that we have to force everybody to register their guns. We register all the cars. What's wrong with registering all the guns." Garry Breitkreuz, MP for Yorkton-Melville, received a copy of the attached letter from David Hughes of Toronto which clearly points out the flaws in the Prime Minister's proposal. He asks newspapers to consider printing Mr. Hughes' letter to the editor.
Breitkreuz commented, "I support Mr. Hughes' analysis and wish everyone would read his letter, especially Justice Minister Allan Rock. I would like to add that the provincial governments issue motor vehicle licences and drivers licences - not the federal government. I think everyone in Saskatchewan would be happier if the provincial government looked after the training and licensing of law-abiding firearms users and have the federal government concentrate on dealing more effectively with the criminals who use guns in the commission of violent crimes. The province does a good job of licensing hunters and also has a world-class hunter safety training course. Even the Canadian Constitution is clear on this matter and I think it is time for the Saskatchewan Government to launch a court challenge to stop the Liberals from imposing more restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners. The Federal government should stop interfering in areas which are in the province's jurisdiction," demanded Breitkreuz.
"Mr. Hughes' letter proves once again that the common sense of the common people is better than the flawed logic of the political and media elites in Ottawa," concluded Breitkreuz.
