It's the second time Dr. Ed Hudson, a 57-year-old veterinarian from Saskatoon, has been busted in the nation's capital this month, prompting some CUFOA members to question their approach to protesting the firearms registry. "We'll have to look at taking a different tactic," said CUFOA member Jack Wilson while waiting for his pal to make bail. TUG OF WAR Hudson and CUFOA president Jim Turnbull, 70, were charged with bringing a weapon to a public meeting during the Jan. 1 rally on Parliament Hill. The men returned to Ottawa this week to appear in court. But trouble broke out upon their arrival at the airport after Ottawa police tried to seize two firearms from the baggage claim area. It's alleged nobody would take ownership of the shotguns, which were being transported in a wooden box. Police then tried taking the guns away, triggering a tug of war between Hudson and an officer over the package. It's alleged Hudson was given a warning to let go before being charged with one count of obstructing police. A tired-looking Hudson appeared in court yesterday wearing a plaid shirt and vest. At least a half-dozen CUFOA members were also present to show their support. Hudson was released from custody on $300 cash bail and an order that he not participate in future public rallies or protests in Canada, that he not come to Ontario unless it's for court or to meet with his lawyer, and that he not possess any gun parts, ammunition or firearms in Ontario. Turnbull was also placed under the same conditions. Both men are expected back in court Feb. 28 with their lawyer, Leon Colwin, to set a trial date. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 2003 10:54:44 -0600 (CST) From: "Breitkreuz, Garry - Assistant 1" Subject: RCMP CONFIRM FIVE MILLION GUNS IN REGISTRY STILL HAVE TO BE VERIFIED http://www.garrybreitkreuz.com/breitkreuzgpress/guns73.htm NEWS RELEASE January 31, 2003 For Immediate Release RCMP CONFIRM FIVE MILLION GUNS IN REGISTRY STILL HAVE TO BE VERIFIED "The Justice Minister ignored bureaucrats' warnings in 2001. Now they have to go back and do it right. Is this the beginning of the second billion to be wasted on the Liberals' firearms fiasco?" asked Breitkreuz. Ottawa - Today, Garry Breitkreuz, Official Opposition Critic for Firearms and Property Rights, released another damning report from the RCMP concerning the alarming inaccuracy of the records in the Liberal billion-dollar gun registry. "The RCMP report that only 18% of guns registered in the system have been verified and 30% of the firearms can't be uniquely identified from the information provided by firearms owners," reported Breitkreuz. "In 1999, the members of the Canadian Police Association (CPA) made accuracy and verification of firearms one of their six conditions of support for the government's universal gun registry. I wonder what the CPA Executive will say now that it's been revealed that the Liberal government has broken yet another promise made to them?" asked Breitkreuz. RCMP documents dated January 23, 2003, and provided to Breitkreuz in response to a request made under the Access to Information Act, state: "Total number of firearms in the CFR [Canadian Firearms Registry] that have been verified. We can confirm 1,081,589 firearms have been verified. Total number of firearms in the CFR that can be uniquely identified based solely on the description of the firearm provided by the firearm owner, 4,220,176." [RCMP File: ATIP2002-44709]. The most current statistics posted on the Canadian Firearms Centre website on January 18, 2003, show a total of 5,920,839 "unique firearms have been registered." Another document obtained by Breitkreuz from the Department of Justice dated January 9, 2001, clearly shows that the reason the government stopped verifying firearms is that it was going to take 8.8 years to register seven-million firearms using the "full matching" process [Justice Dept. ATIP File: A-2001-0156]. Click here for full details: http://www.garrybreitkreuz.com/breitkreuzgpress/GunControl52.htm . An RCMP officer who works in the firearms registry called Breitkreuz's office in February of 2001 and said: "We were just told to stop verifying and to enter whatever the gun owner put on the registration application into the system." The Justice Department's Special Bulletin to Police No. 11 dated June 7, 1999, states: "Verification is a quality-assurance measure for Canada's new registration system. Basically, verification involves a physical examination of a firearms by someone authorized by the Registrar, to make sure the description of the firearm is complete and accurate, thereby confirming that the registration information is reliable." "Justice Minister McLellan was given a choice to either: (1) Meet the completely arbitrary political deadline of January 1, 2003, to have all the guns registered, or (2) Stop verifying firearms and not worry about the accuracy of the information in the gun registry," said Breitkreuz. "The Minister chose politics over accuracy and didn't achieve either objective. There are five million firearms in the system still to verify and millions more still to register. It's going to be interesting to see how this Minister fixes 'McLellan's Mess' because when they stopped the verification of firearms, they also abandoned thousands of volunteer verifiers that had been recruited and supervised by the RCMP. Breitkreuz concluded with two big questions: What will it cost to go back and do it all over again? Is this the beginning of the second billion to be wasted on the Liberals' firearms fiasco?" - -30- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 2003 10:54:47 -0600 (CST) From: "Breitkreuz, Garry - Assistant 1" Subject: Editorial: CUTTING EDGE PUBLICATION: The Calgary Sun DATE: 2003.01.31 EDITION: Final SECTION: Editorial/Opinion PAGE: 14 COLUMN: Editorial - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- CUTTING EDGE - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- There are times when a complicated problem can be attacked effectively with a simple solution. We believe a passionate campaign by Calgary Ald. John Schmal holds just such promise. His proposal strikes directly at the heart of a crime that leaves scores of young Calgarians lying dead or wounded in pools of their own blood. Schmal wants Canada's Minister of Justice Martin Cauchon to impose legislation that calls for a minimum sentence for anyone who uses a knife as a weapon to hurt someone or when committing an offence. He points to statistics that reveal a 67% increase in knife crimes committed in Calgary since 1998. In that year, there were 496 incidents. Last year, in 2002, that shot up to 827. Schmal's been trying to get the federal justice department to consider his request for years. His pleas to former justice minister Anne McLellan fell on deaf ears. Current minister Cauchon has "poured cold water on the idea," he admits. But Schmal has the dogged determination of someone who has common sense on his side. Now, as president of the Canadian Federation of Municipalities, he also has the extra clout that could finally make the feds see the light. Considering this is a growing problem in urban centres across Canada, it's a fitting cause for the federation to take up. Many knife crimes are committed by young people in social situations often aggravated by alcohol or drugs. A law such as the one Schmal proposes would send a strong message to those for whom an impressive "blade" is as much a part of their Saturday night outfits as a clean shirt. Naysayers who cry that this is a infringement on their rights are missing the point. This won't prevent anyone from carrying a legal knife for legitimate purposes, but let's face it, these hooligans aren't packing knives to pick their teeth or gut fish. Police say knives are the "weapon of choice" for this crowd. A minimum sentence for knife crime would help persuade these thugs to leave these lethal implements at home -- or get rid of them. It's as simple as that. So simple, we're astonished the federal Liberals --who've wasted a billion dollars chasing an altogether ineffective remedy for gun crime -- can't see it too. - ------------------------------------------- Statistics Canada - Robbery by Type of Weapon Present, 2000 http://www.garrybreitkreuz.com/publications/RobberybyTypeofWeapon2000.pdf Statistics Canada - Total Victims of Robbery Incidents by Weapon Used and Level of Injury, 2000 http://www.garrybreitkreuz.com/publications/robberies.pdf ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 2003 10:54:45 -0600 (CST) From: "Breitkreuz, Garry - Assistant 1" Subject: =?iso-8859-1?Q?LA_GRC_=3A_CINQ_MILLIONS_DE_FUSILS_INSCRITS_AU_?= =?iso-8859-1?Q?REGISTRE_MAIS_NON_V=C9RIFI=C9S?= http://www.garrybreitkreuz.com/breitkreuzg/guns73fr.htm COMMUNIQU=C9 Le 31 janvier 2003 Pour diffusion imm=E9diate LA GRC : CINQ MILLIONS DE FUSILS INSCRITS AU REGISTRE MAIS NON = V=C9RIFI=C9S =AB La ministre de la Justice a fait fi des mises en garde des = bureaucrates en 2001. I feel as if I have done my little piece for Freedom this morning.... I finally took the time, sat down and wrote my cheque to Mr. Dillabough, (In Trust) for the RFC Ottawa Office fund. I know, as I have been in recent contact with Mr. Dillabough in this regard, that many others are giving what they can as well. Thank you all, if you have already, or if you have just now determined to give a little bit of what you have, toward ensuring we and our children continue to live as Free people in a Free Canada. The RFC Ottawa Office will certainly make that reality a little more likely...! Just to make it easy.....I offer following, the text of a note I sent a week or ten days ago to a group of friends who had earlier committed to support the opening of our new office. It has all the information you will need to fill out your cheque(s) and address your envelope...! In Solidarity Ed Tait Victoria As Professor Dorans said Monday last, 20.01.03... "The Time for Action is Now, we are now ready to rock and roll with the Ottawa RFC Office!" I had some long time ago now, offered the good Professor my assistance in collecting and retaining the pledges made subsequent to his posting of late September, 2002 through which he opened again the question of the possibility of an Ottawa Office for the RFC. It is in this regard and for this reason that I take the liberty of contacting you today. Many of you will have already sent in your earlier pledges, I am merely following-up to ensure that we all remember the importance of our success, in this long awaited, new chapter in the long struggle to maintain our Rights, our Freedoms and our Liberty. As the Professor said, the time is now finally upon us..... Please send whatever donation to the cause, you can afford at the moment and consider sending also, what you can in the future. In addition, please consider speaking to your friends, your business associates, your family and particularly those fellow members of your Club or Association, about their personal donations to the cause of an Ottawa Office, as well as the sponsorship of the Club itself. It is only with the assistance of all of us in the RFC that we will succeed. The monies that you send in support will, as the Professor advised in his recent call to action, (copy follows) be held in trust until such time as there are clearly the donations and pledges of ongoing support to allow the opening and continued operation of the RFC's Ottawa Office. Should the unbelievable happen, that insufficient of us are willing to step up 'to the plate' to stand with our wallets, for the Freedoms we decry the loss of, your entire donation will be returned. The Professor has advised that only when there are sufficient funds in the RFC Ottawa Office bank account to pay the salaries of the two full-time and one part-time staff members intended, will the Ottawa Office be opened. What have you got to lose as they say, but the chains our adversary the Federal government intends us all to wear...? Professor Dorans has, as he has advised, enlisted the able and volunteer assistance of Mr. Charles Dillabough of Chesterville, Ontario, a Certified General Accountant and avid gun collector, to monitor the funds collected for the Ottawa RFC Office, supported by six trustees from the RFC who, the Professor has advised, have first rate reputations for honesty and integrity. Please therefore, get out your chequebook now, and make your cheques payable to: RFC Ottawa Office (In Trust) Then send your cheques immediately to: Mr. Charles Dillabough, CGA, RR #2 Chesterville, Ontario K0C 1H0. (Picture of an Angel floating face down in the water.) DUCK HUNTERS SHOOT ANGEL - Stray bullet brings down messenger of God! Jackson County, Ala. - When Ted Sargo went on his first duck hunt, he never thought he'd end up gunning down a messenger from God! Sargo and Jack Vellor, both first time hunters with no previous waterfowl experience, stood on the shore of a lake and fired at a flock of ducks that flew over their heads. But what they hit was no duck. The creature they shot plunged into the water, about 20 feet away from the hunters. "The thing made such a big splash when it fell, we immediately knew this wasn't just a big duck," remarks Sargo. "At first, she looked like a giant bird, so I wondered where I'd get a skillet big enough to fry the creature, but when Jack saw the flowing hair and silk gown, he screamed, 'My God! We've shot an angel!' " The crime scene was captured on film by a third hunter who asked that his name not be used. A terrified Sargo called local authorities on his cell phone. Police arrived to fish the body out of the water, and were stunned by what they saw. Vellor says, "The angel had the most beautiful wings I had ever seen. She also had a dazzling golden glow that shone around her when she fell, but slowly faded as she died." He continues, "I felt so bad about what happened. This was a messenger of God, and we killed her! I just hope God understands it was an accident." Sargo is equally apologetic. "I'm not a bad man. I've never killed anyone before. I would never shoot another human being, especially one from Heaven. I just hope the Good Lord can find it in his heart to forgive me." Both men take consolation in their belief that the angel has one back where she came from. "She's back in heaven now," Sargo insists. "She's back where she belongs." A team of paramedics placed the angel in an ambulance and rushed her to a nearby hospital. But when they arrived, they were shocked to see the angel vanish before their very eyes. One EMT said, "The angel was suddenly engulfed in the brightest light I ever saw. The next thing I knew, she was gone." Because of the unusual nature of the angel's death and disappearance, no charges have been filed against the hunters. As one prosecutor notes, "How do you file murder charges when the victim has no fingerprints and no ID, leaves no body behind and there is no record of her ever being born?" The hunters, who are both very religious, have applied for admission to a theological seminary. "If we become priests, maybe God will forgive us for shooting this blessed messenger," explains Vellor, "I know one thing - I'll never hunt anything again as long as I live." The government's official story is that there never was an angel. A spokesman for an area wildlife angency says "It was a swan. If the hunters thought they saw something else, they are mistaken." - ------------------------------------------- Okay, my question is - are Angels classified as migratory birds? Do you have to use non-toxic shot, or is lead okay? What is the possession limit, and does anyone know where I can get some decoys and calls?
