We take this action deliberately. We are intentionally contravening the Firearms Act of 1995, purposefully being in open, public noncompliance. The Firearms Act destroys our Canadian heritage and culture. This unjust law violates the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, specifically our rights to privacy, security of person, presumption of innocence, association, representation, mobility, and freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. We will never submit to this unjust law. We will never surrender our Liberty to a law which is based upon a lie; a law which can never deliver the false promise of increased security. We demand the opportunity to have this unjust law declared unconstitutional in court. We will again be hunting on privately owned farm land on the south side of Highway #14 at the Scott Corner, just 8 kilometers west of Wilkie, Saskatchewan. We will hunt on this site from 10 a.m. until noon. We will mail a copy of this notice of our plans to the RCMP Detachment in Wilkie. We will be hunting with an unregistered J.C. Higgins Model 60 semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun, no serial number, owned by Jack Wilson of 33 - 2401 Koyl Ave, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Neither Mr Wilson, nor this shotgun, are on record with the Canadian Firearms Center. As we have consistently demonstrated in our previous nineteen public non-compliance actions all across Canada, everything we do will be peaceful and non-violent. Mr Easter, your government has wasted enough time and money on this futile exercise. Demonstrate your common sense. Protect our Canadian heritage of responsible firearms ownership and use. Repeal this useless, unjust, unconstitutional law. District 5 (Kent) RCMP are asking anybody with information to call in any threats uttered by a suspect they had in custody following the weekend death of Laurent Hebert but ultimately had to release without filing charges. RCMP Staff Sgt. Mike Potvin said the suspect, who lives near Mr. Hebert's home where the 82-year-old's body was discovered Sunday, was released Monday morning because he had been in custody for 24 hours and police opted "at this time" not to lay charges. "Since this man has been released, there have been all kinds of rumours about the safety of the people," Sgt. Potvin said, adding police have stepped up patrols in the area of town where the suspect lives. "We would like the people to come forward with information. "People have complained because they're afraid." Sgt. Potvin said an autopsy performed on Mr. Hebert's body confirmed the octogenarian had been killed, but he declined to say how he died. He did note, however, that police confiscated a number of knives and one firearm during searches of both the suspect's and Mr. Hebert's homes. Sgt. Potvin said police also continue to investigate a strong rumour now circulating throughout the Bouctouche area that Mr. Hebert often lent money. "He's been known to lend money to some of the people because he was a nice gentleman," he said. (courtroom drawing of Jay Handel) courtroom drawing of Jay Handel Jay Handel had just provided the jury with the details of how the three boys and three girls died at the family home in Quatsino on Mar. 11, 2002. Making a choking motion with his hands Handel whispered, "I strangled Ledia." The two-year-old was his youngest child. He said he then strangled six-year-old Moriah. Holding up his hands, as if holding a rifle, he went on to describe shooting his other four children – Roxanne, 9, Levi, 4, Sebastian, 11, and seven-year-old Martial. As he finished, he put his hands over his face and sobbed, then leaned to the side and fell forward, hitting his heads on the front of the witness box. Earlier, Handel had testified he had discovered his wife wanted a divorce, and that he believed she was having an affair with a neighbour. By Mar. 11, 2002 he said he concluded the only way his family would stay together, would be in the afterlife. Handel had earlier admitted he killed the six children, but has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges – saying he was suffering from a mental disorder. The Crown maintains that Handel killed the children as revenge on his wife, Sonya. The jury has already heard testimony that Handel drove her back to their burning house on the morning of the killings, and then cut his own throat in front of her. Jay Handel will be back on the stand on Tuesday. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2003 12:52:56 -0600 (CST) From: Bruce Mills Subject: Norm has an out http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/TorontoSun/News/2003/09/23/199928.html >From Toronto Sun Tue, September 23, 2003 Norm has an out If he quits, Gardner would avoid freebie-gun inquiry By GEORGE CHRISTOPOULOS, CITY HALL BUREAU Embattled police board boss Norm Gardner could resign instead of facing a public hearing into his handling of a freebie pistol and hundreds of rounds of ammo from the force. "Once he resigns his position as a member of the police services board, the commission (Ontario Civilian Commission on Police Services) has no authority over him," a source close to the investigation told The Sun yesterday. On Sept. 8, the commission announced Gardner will face a public inquiry where evidence is given under oath. "They (OCCPS) no longer have jurisdiction ... he can do it 30 seconds before the hearing, he can do it into the hearing ... he can do it now," the source said. POLICE SERVICES ACT He said it's likely Gardner will face charges under the Police Services Act, including conduct unbecoming a member of a police services board. The hearing could start as early as November. Gardner stepped aside from his $90,000-a-year job on June 9 to allow the OCCPS to investigate, yesterday he said he can step down at any time "but why should I?" "I didn't do anything wrong ... I've got no reason to believe that I've broken the code of conduct," Gardner, board chairman since 1998, said. "I don't object to a public hearing because it's the only forum in which I can clear the dark clouds hovering over my head," said Gardner, whose problems arose after the owner of Para-Ordnance, Thanos Polyzos, offered him a new-model handgun. That was nearly 18 months after Gardner helped Polyzos snag a booth at the 2001 police chiefs' conference. Para-Ordnance arranged for Gardner to pick up the gun from a gun dealer. Gardner said he wasn't billed for the gun, but reimbursed Para-Ordnance for the $700 pistol on June 3 after the OPP called him about the gun. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2003 12:53:23 -0600 (CST) From: Bruce Mills Subject: Two hunters drown in northern B.C. lake http://www.whitehorsestar.com/storyDetail.lasso?r=46918 >From Whitehorse Star Two hunters drown in northern B.C. lake by Stephanie Waddell The bodies of 45-year-old Donald Kinney Sr. and 30-year-old Clyde Rodney Dennis were discovered Sunday in northern B.C. after the two men were reported missing last Wednesday. Sgt. Tom Roy of the Dease Lake/Telegraph Creek RCMP detachment said this morning it’s believed the two men eventually succumbed to hypothermia after their boat overturned. Working for Eagle River Outfitters, Kinney and Dennis were guiding two American hunters. The group had killed a moose on the north end of Tsenaglode Lake and the two guides were bringing back parts of the moose in the boat. “The weather was bad,” Roy said. It’s believed this made the water choppy and caused the boat, which seems to have been overloaded, to overturn half-way across the lake. Neither of the two men was wearing lifejackets or personal flotation devices. They were wearing heavy hunting gear. “The water was extremely cold,” Roy said. Eventually, it’s believed hypothermia set in and the two men drowned. Four members of the RCMP Dive Services Underwater Recovery Unit and the Terrace, B.C. police dog brought the bodies out of Tsenaglode Lake, approximately 24 kilometres southwest of Dease Lake, at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Both men were from Iskut, B.C. They were reported missing in the last Wednesday evening when their boat was found capsized on Tsenaglode Lake. Dease Lake RCMP and the Terrace coroner’s office are continuing to investigate. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2003 12:54:09 -0600 (CST) From: Bruce Mills Subject: Senate committee considers arming Coast Guard http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2003/09/23/coast030923 >From CBC Senate committee considers arming Coast Guard Last Updated Tue, 23 Sep 2003 13:03:32 OTTAWA - To boost coastal security and protect Canada from possible terrorists, it may be time Canadian Coast Guard crews carry guns, some members of a Senate defence committee say. Proposals include crews carrying sidearms and ships with weapons mounted on their decks. "What we see right now is the Coast Guard watching all sorts of violations take place. And for them to deal with it, they have to go back to get an RCMP officer, or a fisheries officer or an environment officer," said Senator Colin Kenny. "And we think if you're watching some illegal act happen right under your nose you ought to have the capability of addressing it." Michael Wing, national president of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE), said he welcomes the idea. "We don't have any problem with the mandate of the Coast Guard changing to take on those additional responsibilities, and that includes the arming of those vessels," Wing said. But after years of budget cuts, the Coast Guard is strapped for cash, with an aging fleet, union leaders say. Along with the added cost of new weaponry and training, unions would expect members to receive higher pay. The Senate committee has not yet come up with an estimated cost for the Coast Guard's possible new role. According to documents obtained by the Canadian Alliance through an access to information request, Pierre Théberge spent an average of $100,000 each year since he was appointed in 1998. "It's great when you can play the playboy in the travelling road show with the taxpayers' money," said Alliance MP John Williams. His expenses included: * $292,249 for air and train travel between 1997 and mid-2003; * $154,988 for hotels; * $13,863 for car rentals; * $30,463 for parking and taxis; * and about $55,000 for meals and hospitality. "I'm saying Mr. Théberge, you better come forward and explain why you spent this kind of money, what you've been spending it on and what you've achieved," said Williams. Although Théberge was not available for comment, the gallery's public affairs director said all the expenses were a necessary part of the business of bringing art to Canada and taking Canadian art to the world. Théberge is the latest Ottawa figure to come under scrutiny for expense spending. Questions have been raised about Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson's $1 million trip to Russia, Finland and Iceland and the dramatic increase of the Governor General's budget over the past four years. Last week, a former aide to Heritage Minister Sheila Copps was alleged to have spent tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars on dinners at Ottawa restaurants over a two-year period. Conservative MP Joe Clark, who sits on the parliamentary committee that examines government spending, said Théberge's expenses may well be justified, but so is the scrutiny. "There has been a warning signal sent to all public officials that their expenditures are going to be examined," he said. NDP MP Pat Martin said the recent targeting of government officials does not amount to a witch hunt. "I think it might be bad for business in some of the higher priced restaurants within the immediate circumference of Parliament Hill. But the word is out there that we're watching, somebody is watching," said Martin. A form of scum that seldom sees the light of day - except in Ottawa, when in the presence of Liberal politicians. I am speaking, of course, of the so called "national executive" of the National Firearms Association. More specifically, I am speaking of Pinocchio Jim Hinter and Devious Dave Tomlinson. Most of us recall that, after all the lying and prevaricating, Tomlinson admitted that the NFA membership did indeed pay Jim Hinter's legal bills after he blew a hole through the wall to his neighbor's apartment, playing Wyatt Earp with a handgun. The inevitable result of allowing morons to play with firearms. Just what was all the toothpaste on the wall about anyways, Jimmy? Wanna tell us about that? I hear Crest is asking if you'll endorse their product... And somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the NFA membership also paid Devious Dave's legal bills when he went to court to fight for a permit with Richard Fritz as his lawyer, did they not? Oh yes, there was lots of money to spend in court to cover the legal fees of the two resident NFA oligarchs when they had their legal troubles. Thousands and thousands of dollars - particularly for Jimmy the Prez. But there was no money to support Allan Carlos - despite Hinter insinuating that the NFA was indeed helping with his legal bills. And now, it appears that the ol' NFA Legal hisself (aka Devious Dave Tomlinson) and The Prez have decided there simply isn't enough money to lend financial support to Brian Ward. You all remember Brian Ward - the fellow that had his home searched days before Christmas for a handgun the police already had possession of, and all of his firearms, art, fishing gear, money, tax records, etc seized after police finally managed to break into his gun room. He was subsequently charged with unsafe storage of a deactivated firearm - a charge since stayed. Is Brian Ward's situation important to firearms owners everywhere, and thus worthy of support? You tell me. He acted as though he were an NFA field officer a few years back and helped Dave Skelton get a firearm back that the RCMP wanted to keep; he was later warned by the Area Firearms Officer, our good friend Mr. Turple, that if he didn't quite publicly speaking against the Firearms Act, bad things were going to come his way. Brian Ward didn't blow holes in his neighbor's walls through negligent handling of a firearm - he earned the hate of a few malicious police/firearms officers for effectively fighting for firearms owners' rights and publicly explaining what was wrong with the Firearms Act. And that's why his house was trashed in a search for a firearm the police already had in their possession, everything not nailed down was seized, and he was charged with unsafe storage of a deactivated firearm. Is this a clear message to firearms owners of what the few malicious police and firearms officers out there will do to you if you demand that firearms owners' rights be respected and dare to exercise freedom of speech in condemning the Firearms Act? Is this kind of thing unworthy of being fought on behalf of firearms owners in this country? The NFA, remember, likes to bill itself as the "United Voice of Canadian Firearm Owners" Past NFA records indicate Devious Dave Tomlinson spends upwards of $20,000 a year on himself for his "expenses" acting as NFA Legal - doughnuts are expensive in Edmonton these days. No idea how much money it cost to get Pinocchio Jim Hinter acquitted for blowing holes through his neighbor's wall. And no idea how much money to fight Devious Dave's license application. There's money for all of that. And Jim Hinter's illegal salary. And Jim Hinter's illegal Jeep. And political junkets to Ottawa for Devious Dave and Pinocchio Jim to press the flesh with federal Liberals. And of course, Pinocchio Jim Hinter, Devious Dave Tomlinson, and all the rest of the NFA elite will tell anyone who will believe them that membership has never been higher - it's positively exploding. So with all those membership dues pouring in... there should be lots of money for ol' NFA Legal to spend fighting significant court cases. Right? Wrong. There isn't a dime for Brian Ward. His case isn't important enough to the NFA - or at least not as important as Jimmy's case for shooting holes in his neighbors' walls or for Dave to get the permit he wanted so badly. Brian Ward contacted the NFA. He asked for help. To quote Brian "I made many phone calls to the NFA and also one request in writing to them asking for Assistance". What did he get from Dave Tomlinson, ol' NFA Legal hisself? Well, from what Brian tells me, NFA Legal was too preoccupied with playing God to even bother contacting Brian. But Hinter did. And here's the assistance Brian Ward got from the NFA to help him with the seizure of his property and his legal problems. I'll let Brian explain it - it won't take long: "Hinters approach was stay low profile and don't talk to people about your situation and don't make to much noise." No money. No aid. Just advice not to talk about how you were getting screwed and your rights violated. Sit down, shut up, be nice to the malicious police and firearms officers and maybe they'll eventually forget about you. Boy, with help like that Brian Ward doesn't need any enemies. Makes me wonder if Jim Hinter and Dave Tomlinson are cutting some sort of deal with the federal government for themselves and don't want to upset the applecart by getting publicly involved in Brian Ward's problems. Is that possible? Well... somebody else give me a better explanation of why they would give Brian such anal and useless advice - especially when it comes from the same people who are always telling people to march into police detachments and demand their property or they'll arrest the police. Why else would they tell him to sit down and shut up about the search of his house, the seizure of everything up to and including fishing gear, and facing bogus charges? You people that are still members of the NFA, is this the kind of organization you expect to have for your membership? Is this what your dues pay for? Do you think you'll get any better treatment and support than Brian Ward did when it's YOUR turn to have a malicious cop at your door? Or will there only be money left for King Jim's illegal salary and Super Dave's doughnuts? Oh yes, I have to mention one solitary bright note on this. The BC Executive were apparently sufficiently ashamed of Hinter and Tomlinson's indifference that, according to Brian Ward, they reached into their own pockets and came up with $80 for Brian's legal defense fund. Give them credit for that, even if they won't publicly condemn the tyrants running the show for sitting on their asses - and the members' money - doing nothing. Members of this list are always being urged to write letters to politicians and newspapers. I'm here to say theat, whether you are a member or not, you should be taking the time to write letters to the pond scum who have seized control of the NFA and give them your opinion of what they're doing in the Brian Ward case - - hell, tell them you support their abandonment of Brian if you like. I'll make it easy for you - the contact addresses for the NFA are below, so just click on the link and write your letter.
