The grizzly bear (many of which live in B.C. and Alberta) doesn't sound like a vulnerable animal. They are, though, because of the demand for basically the whole grizzly bear. The grizzly is hunted predominantly for its gall bladder, and is illegally sold on the black market in China. Since the invention of the rifle, the grizzly bear has seen a steady decline. But, in the past five years, the grizzly population has seen a very large decline because the hunting season was extended from April to September, instead of April to July. Most of the grizzlies are being killed in areas where the police force is small. This makes it easier to illegally hunt the bears. There are many ways you can help save endangered species, such as visiting websites, donating money to foundations, signing petitions, and adopting an animal. We hope this will inspire you to do even a small deed to help save endangered species of the world. - Scott M. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 16:12:11 -0600 (CST) From: Breitkreuz@sfn.saskatoon.sk.ca, Garry - Assistant 1 Subject: Conservative Party Policy Declaration Now On Line The Conservative Party of Canada Policy Declaration, as approved by the Convention on March 19, 2005, is now on line. http://www.conservative.ca/documents/20050319-POLICY%20DECLARATION.pdf http://www.conservative.ca/documents/20050319-POLICY%20DECLARATION-f.pdf ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 16:12:15 -0600 (CST) From: Breitkreuz@sfn.saskatoon.sk.ca, Garry - Assistant 1 Subject: Court papers detail Roszko's weapons PUBLICATION: GLOBE AND MAIL DATE: 2005.04.07 PAGE: A9 BYLINE: DARCY HENTON SECTION: National News SOURCE: CP EDITION: Metro DATELINE: Edmonton AB WORDS: 643 - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- Court papers detail Roszko's weapons Crossbow, fake gun among arms seized - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- DARCY HENTON Canadian Press EDMONTON RCMP seized a crossbow, a fake gun and boxes of ammunition in the March 2 search of Mountie killer James Roszko's farm. New court documents show that a crossbow with arrows and other items were found in the absent Mr. Roszko's trailer home, along with papers related to a marijuana grow operation, when police searched the farm just before midnight near Mayerthorpe, Alta. Four Alberta Mounties were slain the next morning when a heavily armed Mr. Roszko, whose hatred of police and record of violence were well known in the community, sneaked back to the farm and fired on them with a semi-automatic assault rifle. Constables Brock Myrol, 29, Anthony Gordon, 28, Leo Johnston, 32, and Peter Schiemann, 25 -- who was out of uniform and unarmed -- died in the attack. A senior British Columbia RCMP officer, assisted by a B.C. major crimes unit, is investigating the shooting. The RCMP say the probe could take months. Mr. Roszko was barred in April, 2000, from possessing weapons, including crossbows and ammunition, after he was convicted of sexual assault and sentenced to 30 months in prison. The ban was to remain in effect until April, 2010. Police say Mr. Roszko fatally shot himself after ambushing the Mounties as they walked into the Quonset hut together. The officers were investigating Mr. Roszko for illegal production of marijuana and possession of stolen property after a bailiff tipped them off that the farmer had a marijuana grow operation and vehicle chop shop. The RCMP also seized a laptop computer, a police radio scanner, two scales, vehicle information, marijuana seeds and two wallets containing $1,585 in cash, according to search warrant returns filed Tuesday in Stony Plain provincial court. The RCMP earlier said the discovery of ammunition on the property during initial stages of the search prompted them to reassess security and safety precautions. The type and amount of ammunition found in two boxes was not specified in the RCMP report to a justice of the peace. Police had seized the crossbow during a search of Mr. Roszko's farm in 1993, but it was returned to him. John Roszko said yesterday that his brother James was proficient with the crossbow. "He was good with it," he said. "He had that for a lot of years." The RCMP also seized 13 items from a granary on the farm, including spotlights, walkie-talkies, stereo equipment, a television, drug paraphernalia and a box of articles related to police and sex offences. From the Quonset where Mr. Roszko and the four officers died, investigators seized three sets of Alberta licence plates, two pickup trucks, a dirt bike, an all-terrain vehicle, an electrical generator and a lawn tractor. A justice of the peace ordered Tuesday that the exhibits continue to be held by Mayerthorpe RCMP pending further investigation. In the search warrant, based on the information of Mayerthorpe RCMP Corporal James Martin, police suspected the generator found on Mr. Roszko's property had been stolen from a nearby oil lease site. The RCMP have since said they seized 280 marijuana plants from the property, but there is no reference to that in the court documents. The 24-hour search warrant was issued after a bailiff requested the RCMP accompany him to the farm while he executed a warrant to seize a 2005 Ford F350 truck purchased from an Edmonton dealership. It states that the bailiff saw a man come out of the Quonset and release two Rottweiler dogs before departing in a truck. The bailiff entered the property by cutting a lock off a gate. He reported to the police that he found new trucks in various stages of disassembly in the Quonset. Constables Martin and Schiemann entered the property and noted what appeared to be a marijuana grow operation, the stolen generator and stacks of truck parts. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 17:00:03 -0600 (CST) From: "ross" Subject: If I were the RCMP If I were the paid enforcedrs of the state, I would be looking real hard to seize the accounting books of the Liberal party of canada, the Bloc Quebecois, and the Provincial Liberals. He goes on to note that it was Martin who called the Gomery inquiry in the first place. That's a point well taken. If the evidence is not substantial -- or if it doesn't link Martin directly to the sponsorship scandal -- the Liberals can argue that not only is the prime minister clean, but he put in place the mechanism (Gomery) to ferret out wrongdoing. WELL LOOKEE here martin did indeed call the Gommery inquiry, for the sole reason as he did not have any choice. The Opposition parties all were clamoring for this, and the Liberals felt their power about to be disconnected. So the good professor above tells only partial truth. martin had no choice. had ne not called Gommery, he would have been seen to be complicit (and still may be) in the money laundering scheme that adscam is turning into. He avoided suspicion by doing the obvious..no choice. He did not do this for us taxpayers. Now that some of the sirt is being reported, it clearly goes to the PMO office. wonder just why the former PM is so silent now, and what he truly knew. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 17:59:43 -0600 (CST) From: "ross" Subject: home invader > Invader hurts man > Elderly Alexandria couple attacked in home HAD the elderly gent had his pistol, we would now know who the perp was that attacked him. instead of being able to roam the streets and try again ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 18:00:28 -0600 (CST) From: "ross" Subject: Dont assess blame (puke) PUBLICATION: The Kingston Whig-Standard DATE: 2005.04.07 EDITION: Final SECTION: Editorial PAGE: 4 COLUMN: Callie Markotich BYLINE: Callie Markotich SOURCE: The Kingston Whig-Standard - - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - -- - - ---- Don't assess blame for gun violence - find solutions - - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - -- - - ---- Billy Collins, American Poet Laureate from 2001-2003, wrote a poem entitled Another Reason Why I Don't Keep a Gun in the House. The first line of the poem reads: "The neighbours' dog will not stop barking..." Ah, but read the poem and admire his solution: a proactive and inventive course of action that transforms his environment, his state of mind and, hence, his perception of that barking dog. A gun isn't mentioned again. This is poetic hyperbole, remote from the reality of Billy Collins. In fact, he likes dogs, even though they bark. And he doesn't keep a gun in the house. Though we're not all poets, we're humans, and most of us are endowed with powers of reflection, creative energy, humour, self-control and awareness - and we have the resources to solve problems. Most of us don't need to keep a gun in the house. Subject: My letter to the Kingston Whig-Standard Just submitted, not yet printed. Have you written a letter today? - ----- Original Message ----- From: Bruce Mills To: Sent: Thursday, April 07, 2005 8:32 PM Subject: Re: Don't assess blame for gun violence - find solutions Callie Markotich's attitude towards guns is typically liberal, and her solutions are typically facile: ban guns. No, she doesn't quite come out and say so in so many words, but the sentiment is there, nevertheless. "And he doesn't keep a gun in the house"; "Most of us don't need to keep a gun in the house."; "What if Roszko and others who killed with guns hadn't possessed guns?"; "The consistent factors are lonely, unmanaged rage and the availability of guns.";"And we needn't keep a gun in the house". For all her drivel about "not assessing blame", her target seems quite obvious. Also typically liberal, Markotich prefers to blame objects, in this case guns, rather than the real culprit: the person who actually committed the crime, in this case, James Roszko. Although she tangentally refers to "responsibility", it isn't the responsibility of the perpetrator she means, it is the supposed collective responsibility of "society". It isn't Roszko's fault he killed those Mounties - "society" just coulnd't find the right "key" to help him! What codswallop! Sometimes people are just bad. Sometimes people don't want to be helped. Sometimes no matter what you do, you can't help them! This is when real responsibility comes into play: when bad people do bad things, they must be held personally accountable. Blaming guns, or blaming society, or relying on poetry isn't going to help matters any. Talked to two more people who got their letter today. Bottom line: Please oh please call an election. Please oh please give us property rights so we can sue the Governement for loss of value. The big question is "What justification have we given the Government to treat us this way?" When Anne stood up and said that this legislation was designed to go after criminals while having the minimum of impact on law abiding gun owners she was lying through her teeth. Every new intitiative impacts the law abiding while the criminals literally get away with murder. I used to consider the moniker LIEberal as a bit offensive. In light of their treatment of gun owners and the things coming out at the Gomery inquirey the name looks like less of an insult day by day. Does anyone know how many owners and how many firearms have been affected by this decision? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 19:26:44 -0600 (CST) From: 10x <10x@telus.net> Subject: Re: If I were the RCMP At 05:00 PM 4/7/05 -0600, you wrote: > > >If I were the paid enforcedrs of the state, I would be looking real hard to >seize the accounting books of the Liberal party of canada, the Bloc >Quebecois, and the Provincial Liberals. > >I would want to grab these now before some sleight of hand is done and they >disapear down some deep dark murky hole, known only to those who know where >it is and the guilty The head of the R.C.M.P. is a minister under the minster of Justice. Not at all independant. The R.C.M.P. will not act until Ms McLellan or Mr. Cotler allow them to act. They may not act even then as the Commissioner seems to have a bias.
