I have done business with the owner of Island Guns and Gear and have always found him to be reputable and honest; once again the Liberals are turning ordinary contributing members of society into paper criminals, while continuing to do nothing about the known real repeat offenders for fear of offending their civil liberties. This citizen who was targeted by the authorities because he spoke out about the injustice of the Firearms Act is having his good name smeared and his livelihood threatened all to keep the Liberals from losing face. I urge your paper as a voice of the people to make all efforts to get both sides of this story and not just print the fear mongering reports given to you by the local Liberal lapdogs. I ask that you help this well known and respected man by refusing to fall prey to using all the buzz words that are so often thrown around. For example weapon were any of the firearms used to commit a crime? No - therefore they are guns or tools, not weapons. Prohibited Devices The term does not mean what it implies, prohibited means something not allowed, yet to the Firearms Community it means something that requires a special license. Island Guns and Gear does have, like myself and thousands of other Canadians prohib status, so do not let the authorities mislead you into thinking he had illegal items. One other exception I took to your article was twice you mentioned that over 100 firearms were seized, is someone trying for shock value? To a gun collector, dealer, or store over 100 is not that many, so why mention it twice? Perhaps you should also do some research into the arrest and seizure of legally owned property of a few other individuals lately, there again all law abiding paper criminals. They are in Nova Scotia gunshop Ed's Guns, in Ontario Gunsmith Bruce Montague, and in PEI Allen Baker. Look into all these cases and see the similarities, there is nothing more then intimidation and abuse of power to try to scare law abiding Firearms owners into giving up their guns, why? We are not the problem and never have been. Tell both sides of the story, your readers will thank you. Manning, the Reform party founder, and Harris, the former Ontario Tory premier, insisted their report, commissioned by the right-wing Fraser Institute, was non-partisan. But it quickly became fodder for a potential federal election. Prime Minister Paul Martin, seeking a respite from his woes over the sponsorship scandal, vowed to fight ''tooth and nail'' to defend medicare. The Conservative agenda is no longer hidden, Martin told the Commons. ''It is no federal role in health care, it is no Canada Health Act, it is no one saying no to the privatization of health care.'' Harper, speaking outside a party caucus meeting, said most provinces are already ''experimenting extensively'' with private delivery of health care - but within the overall context of a publicly funded system. ''That's an experiment that I said we support. Mr. Martin has said he doesn't support it, but Mr. Martin not only signed an accord with the provinces that allows it, unlike myself he goes to a private health care clinic.'' Harper has been trying to move toward the political centre on health care and other issues, trying to deprive the Liberals of a weapon they used against him in the last election campaign. The federal Conservatives recently adopted a policy that basically supports the public health system but would allow the provinces room to manoeuvre on how they deliver services to the public. © Canadian Press 2005 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Apr 2005 17:33:29 -0600 (CST) From: "Bruce Mills" Subject: My letter to Global National Just submitted, not yet printed. The man's brother was showered with broken glass after closing up Shediac Video and Variety on Braemar Drive about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was grazed by a shotgun pellet and suffered facial cuts. Both men want their identities kept secret. "I don't think it's someone trying to get even with us," the man said. "I don't feel singled out." Less than 20 minutes later, someone shot out a window in an apartment attached to Pinecrest Video and Variety at 23 Brule St. in north-end Dartmouth. Detectives are looking at possible connections between the two incidents. There is no motive for the bizarre shootings, but investigators are considering several theories, including retaliation against the stores for co-operating with police after previous robberies. "That's definitely something we'd look at," said Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Mark Hobeck. Just locked door A witness on Braemar Drive told police he saw a man in the store's parking lot seconds after hearing the blast. The store clerk had just locked the door and it appears the man may have tried to get in before shooting the glass out. "I think he was startled when he saw my brother in the store," said the shop's co-owner. The man ran away, but investigators think he had a car stashed nearby. Police say they're perplexed by the incidents and want to talk with anyone who saw suspicious vehicles near the stores. The German-born Canadian citizen was found in the second-floor hallway of his building. He had been shot twice. A suspect has been apprehended. Police would not speculate as to a motive for the shooting, although they did say Mr. Droege was not armed. Mr. Droege, known by his nickname "Wolfie," was a devoted supporter of Adolf Hitler. He denied that six million Jews died in the Holocaust and called for a separate state for whites that was free of Jews and other racial minorities. During a 1993 visit to Ottawa Mr. Droege said he was recruiting for a "holy racial war" and reflected on statements his group had made, including calling Jews, non-whites and anti-racist groups "human debris" and "human rats." "Youth are attracted to ideas that are provocative. I never call people to use violence," he said during a 1993 interview. His views drew a crowd of more than 600 anti-racist protesters to clash with the Heritage Front followers on Ottawa streets. The two groups threw bottles and rocks at each other forcing police to form a buffer between them. The clash followed a tense 21/2-hour standoff between the two groups at the Centretown Boys and Girls Club, where the white supremacists had organized a concert as part of a recruitment drive. Mr. Droege's first brush with organized white supremacy was in 1976 at a meeting of the "International Patriotic Congress," in New Orleans hosted by David Duke, the former U.S. Ku Klux Klan leader who was, at one time, elected to the Louisiana state legislature. That meeting had a lasting impact on Mr. Droege. "I told Duke I would be his man in Canada," Mr. Droege told Warren Kinsella, author of the book Web of Hate. Mr. Droege began work to rejuvenate a ragtag group of supporters in Canada, distributing pamphlets and posters, shaking hands and giving speeches. He drew in a group of young, urban members who differed sharply from the face of the KKK in the U.S. Five years later, Mr. Droege was charged for his leadership role in a coup attempt over the tiny Caribbean island of Dominica that came shockingly close to succeeding. Mr. Droege and his associates were arrested by the FBI and spent three years in prison. Mr. Droege often presented stark contradictions: He could be friendly and well-spoken at one moment and then issue a call for violence at a hate-filled rally or clandestine meeting of supporters. He again came to prominence in Toronto in the late 1980s and early 1990s as founder and spokesman for the Heritage Front, a group that placed a slick, modern veneer on the old beliefs of the Ku Klux Klan. Mr. Droege recently told the National Post that he had turned his back on violence as a means of achieving political goals but added his feelings on race and the constructive value of the Third Reich had not changed. ------------------------------ End of Cdn-Firearms Digest V7 #977 ********************************** Submissions: mailto:cdn-firearms-digest@sfn.saskatoon.sk.ca Mailing List Commands: mailto:majordomo@sfn.saskatoon.sk.ca Moderator's e-mail address: mailto:akimoya@cogeco.ca List owner: mailto:owner-cdn-firearms@sfn.saskatoon.sk.ca FAQ list: http://www.magma.ca/~asd/cfd-faq1.html and http://teapot.usask.ca/cdn-firearms/Faq/cfd-faq1.html Web Site: http://teapot.usask.ca/cdn-firearms/homepage.html FTP Site: ftp://teapot.usask.ca/pub/cdn-firearms/ CFDigest Archives: http://www.sfn.saskatoon.sk.ca/~ab133/ or put the next command in an e-mail message and mailto:majordomo@sfn.saskatoon.sk.ca get cdn-firearms-digest v04.n192 end (192 is the digest issue number and 04 is the volume) To unsubscribe from _all_ the lists, put the next five lines in a message and mailto:majordomo@sfn.saskatoon.sk.ca unsubscribe cdn-firearms-digest unsubscribe cdn-firearms-alert unsubscribe cdn-firearms-chat unsubscribe cdn-firearms end (To subscribe, use "subscribe" instead of "unsubscribe".)
