PUBLICATION: The Toronto Sun DATE: 2008.05.04 EDITION: Final SECTION: News PAGE: 4 BYLINE: CHRIS DOUCETTE, SUN MEDIA WORD COUNT: 263 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- A rough day in T.O. Machete attack, shooting, beating, home invasion - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- A day of violence left three men injured and a young woman traumatized in four separate incidents across the city yesterday. The trouble began early, around 1:40 a.m., when a 24-year-old man was brutally attacked with a machete outside a bar in the Annex, Toronto Police said. "There was a lot of blood at the scene," Sgt. Viv Meik, of 14 Division, said. He said investigators were still trying to figure out exactly what happened but it's believed the assault began with a dispute between several people inside the Sejong Restaurant at 658 Bloor St. W., near Bathurst St., and spilled out onto the sidewalk. ARTERY SEVERED A man, who knew people involved in the fight but wasn't inside the restaurant, attacked the victim across his forearm with a machete, severing an artery, Meik alleged. "He could easily have died," he said, adding the young man was rushed to hospital and will likely need multiple surgeries. Later in the morning, around 10 a.m., a confrontation at a townhouse complex in Scarborough ended in bloodshed, sending a 38-year-old to hospital with two gunshot wounds to his leg and torso. "I didn't see what happened but I heard it," said one resident of 3190 Kingston Rd., just west of Bellamy Rd. Staff.-Sgt. Ted Cook, of 43 Division, said police are looking for three men seen fleeing the area on foot. The victim was whisked away to Sunnybrook hospital, where he underwent surgery. In the afternoon, police responded to two home invasions. TIED UP In one of the incidents, a 17-year-old boy was badly beaten and left tied up inside his home on Garden Ave., near Roncesvalles Ave. and Queen St. W. in Parkdale. But police said it was unclear what, if anything, was taken. In the other home invasion, police said five men armed with handguns burst into the home of a 21-year-old woman on Midland Ave. near Lawrence Ave. E. in Scarborough. One of the bandits pointed a gun at the young lady's head as the others ransacked the residence, stealing a laptop computer, Sony Playstation, digital camera and cash. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 May 2008 08:52:57 -0400 From: "Breitkreuz, Garry - Assistant 2" Subject: Weapons linke to Jerome found weeks after slayings PUBLICATION: WINNIPEG FREE PRESS DATE: 2008.05.03 PAGE: B1 BYLINE: Mike McIntyre SECTION: City WORD COUNT: 697 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Weapons linke to Jerome found weeks after slayings - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jerome Labossiere, his nephew Daniel Labossiere and two Hells Angels associates were accused of hiding a cache of high-powered weapons inside a south Winnipeg home just weeks after his parents and brother were gunned down in St. Leon, according to court documents obtained by the Free Press. Police raided a residence on Four Mile Road in January 2006, seizing four firearms -- a Tec-9 submachinegun, Ruger Mini-14, FN assault rifle and an Israeli-made version of the Russian AK-47. The Tec-9 barrel had been modified to attach a silencer, although one wasn't found. Police also seized hundreds of rounds of ammunition. "It's certainly not for hunting," police Sgt. Rick Guyader said at the time. The couple who owned the property was arrested and charged with numerous weapons offences -- but only now has the alleged link to the Labossiere family been revealed. Winnipeg police wrote an affidavit to obtain a search warrant days before the raid, telling a magistrate that an informant had come to them. The mystery man -- known as "Source A" throughout the documents -- said Jerome and Daniel Labossiere, along with Hells Angels associates Andre Toupin and Al Lebras, were involved in "trafficking multi-kilogram amounts of cocaine and thousands of tablets of ecstasy." Source A said he had been at the home on Four Mile Road in January when Jerome and Daniel showed up with two large duffle bags they'd removed from the back of a pickup truck. "Two assault rifles were removed from the duffle bags, one from each. Four loaded magazines for the assault rifles, two from each bag, were also removed. The loaded magazines were placed in a plastic fishing tackle box which was placed in the rafters of the garage. The two assault rifles were taken into the house," Source A said, according to police. Source A said Lebras had called him about the guns, saying they had to find a good hiding spot because the November 2005 St. Leon murder was putting "lots of police attention" on Lebras, Jerome and Daniel Labossiere and they didn't want the guns to be found. "Source A indicates that Lebras and the Labossieres have the assault rifles for the purpose of protecting their illegal drug trafficking activities against rival criminals/outlaw motorcycle gangs," police said. Source A said he'd only been to the home at Four Mile Road on one prior occasion, for a party that had occurred just before Christmas 2005. He said Jerome, Daniel and Lebras were present. Police said Source A was a reliable, truthful informant with no prior criminal record who was looking for a financial reward for his work. They said the weapons needed to be seized immediately to protect the public. "The firearms could be moved at any time when police are unable to act," they wrote. Jerome's connections to the Hells Angels are well-established. He was arrested in February 2006 for making a series of drug deals with criminalturned- police-agent Franco Atanasovic. Twelve other suspects were arrested, including Andre Toupin. Toupin is related to Jeremie Toupin, who along with Jerome is now charged with the St. Leon murders. Andre Toupin will go on trial later this year. He is free on bail. The allegations that Daniel Labossiere has ties to the Hells Angels are new. Previously, Jerome had claimed in court documents that his other nephew, Joel Labossiere, was a Hells hangaround and good friend of Lebras. No mention was made of Daniel. Joel denied the allegations. Ezra in Wonderland By Ezra Levant on May 3, 2008 10:41 PM http://ezralevant.com/2008/05/ezra-in-wonderland.html I attended the Canadian Race Relations Foundation conference on Friday. Other than Jason Kenney, the National Post's Kevin Libin, and me, there was only one white male in the audience of 100. I don't think I would have noticed such a thing were it not a foundation supposedly dedicated to diversity. I'll get back to that point in a moment. More importantly, I recommend to you Libin's front page story in Saturday's Post about Kenney's speech, if you haven't read it yet. Some excerpts: /Jason Kenney, a Cabinet member and Secretary of State for Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity, labelled "dangerous" the "illiberal tactics" employed by some activists in the name of tolerance./ /"I think it's very important for those of us engaged in anti-racism efforts to ensure the tactics we use, the approaches that we take, are consistent with respect for the liberal values of the Charter of Rights, of the Canadian constitutional framework, of our democratic parliamentary institutions," Mr. Kenney told the crowd of about 100./ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 May 2008 21:05:58 -0600 From: Joe Gingrich Subject: U. Hammer USF Executive Director NRA Past President In the fight for your firearms freedom, the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Retail Federation were determined to kill Florida's HB503, the bill that protects your right to keep a firearm in your vehicle for personal protection. They even threatened the Legislature and the Governor with a lawsuit. The Legislature was not intimidated -- they passed the bill. Governor Charlie Crist (R) was not intimidated -- he signed it into law. They stood up for you. They stood up for law-abiding gun owners and your self-defense rights against the big business bullies that were trying to eliminate them. Six days after Governor Crist signed the bill into law, the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Retail Federation rushed into federal court and filed a frivolous lawsuit to try to have the new law overturned. They had already bragged to the media that they would spend huge amounts of money to fight to negate your constitutional and statutory rights. On April 16 the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported: "The Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Retail Federation are ready to pay a legal tab they expect to total at least $250,000 to counter what they term an assault on private property rights." They are relying on Disney, Publix, Walmart and other anti-gun corporate giants to fund their assault on the Legislature, Governor Crist, and on our right-to-carry. We need your help to raise the money to fight this blatant attack on you and your right to protect yourself and your family. PLEASE send a contribution TODAY. No matter where you live. No matter what city, what county, what state -- this is a fight that affects all of us. Right-to-carry laws are meaningless if corporate bullies are allowed to eliminate them on a whim.
