Jordan" Subject: Tactical, Shooting, Oudoor Wire Survey Results Folks; I would to like to thanks all of those that did take the time to respond to my request for your vote on these E-Zine articles that I have been providing on and off over the last year or so. Basically, I would have wished that there were more responses than what I got, but the way the results broke down were unequival. All of the responses to my survey except one which was neutral- were all positive. There were no negative responses, which even surprised me! So from now on, I will try to provide of what I do hope that you'll all agree, is the best of the entire lot of these E-Zines as they all come out during the week, maybe twice a week or so depending on what I can figure out as to be relevant content to us, up here. These could be of a political or commentary nature, or a product recall on a firearm or firearm related products, or a new shooting or bow sport product and tactics. One should keep in mind though that these E-Zines are from our brethren sportsfolk below the 49th parallel and therefore will reflect their politics, attitudes and their available shooting products, some if not most might not be available in our country due to our wondrous myriad of silly laws. But at least I do hope that these E-Zines will at least try to keep us appraised of what new trends are developing in the Shooting sporting industry, relevant law and issues. For example just how the bullet manufacturing industries are attempting to react to the recent laws enacted in certain states to eliminate lead in the shooting sports, justified or not, as in to the R&D of replacement compounds for bullets, slugs and shot, etc. and how they perform, well before our Mandarins of bureaucracy and politics go on about their devious ways of finding out new ways to make our lives up here even more miserable with regulation that they already are. And of course, I do hope that at least some of these topics engender debate amongst us, up here on this forum as well. I do hope that you will find them useful and know, that in each post, I do provide the information and links in order for anyone to sign up, as these E-Zines are free for all. In closing I would also like to thank Dewey, who first turned me on to these, just after I stared my tenure as moderator of this Usenet group. Enjoy, think and debate as you will. Just as it did in 2006, the nation's crime rate dropped in 2007, the = rate of some categories of crime hitting lows not known for 30 years and Quebec = and Montreal appearing - statistically, at least - as among the safest = places you'll find in Canada. The StatsCan findings echo those compiled by Desroches's force, which = found that crime on the island of Montreal dropped last year by 8.3 per cent. But Montreal's statistics are based on a comparison between real numbers from one year to the next - 42 homicides committed in 2007 measured = against 43 in 2006 equals a drop of 2.3 per cent. However, the ebb and flow of national crime statistics isn't based on a variation in the real number of offences committed but on changes to the crime rate - the ratio of crimes committed per 100,000 residents. Thus, the greater Toronto area, population 5.1 million, recorded a total = of 111 homicides last year and was the nation's murder capital. However, = even those 12 bloody months raised the area's murder rate to only two per = 100,000 residents. ***And as a result, we have an idiot like Mayor David Miller rushing to close ***down long existing legal gun ranges and calling for a total ban = on handguns ***which will ensure that only criminals will have access to handguns! = This is ***actually more of a Criminal Safety Act than anything else. Further Winnipeg ***now holds the title of Murder Capital Canada but as most of = the murders ***somehow involve the native community it will not garner the = press coverage ***that Toronto gets. The sad part is that the politicians are = so quick to use ***the bodies of the dead as a podium to stand on in order = to push their agendas.=20 Saskatoon, meanwhile, with a population of about 234,000 and nine = homicides committed in 2007, was found to have a murder rate of about 3.6. Things also become complicated when a decrease in a crime rate could be mistaken for an actual drop in crime. For example, last year, the auto = theft rate in Quebec was established at 470 per 100,000 residents, a drop of = 6.8 per cent compared with the rate for 2006. However, that decrease doesn't change the fact that last year there were 36,216 cars stolen in this province, ensuring Quebec maintained its place as a national leader when = it came to the theft of motor vehicles. ***Why are motor vehicle owners not treated like lawful gun owners and = held ***accountable for allowing their vehicle to be stolen? A lot of the = stolen ***vehicles end up being used to commit other criminal acts like robbery = and ***drive by shootings. The fact that the vehicle owner gets his vehicle back and=20 ***faces no charges because he/she is treated as a victim of crime While = a gun ***owner who has his/her home broken into and a legally acquired firearm, ***properly stored, usually has his/her property confiscated = and destroyed as the ***police trump up charges against them speaks volumes about the bias of the=20 ***police and the media.=20 Desroches appreciates the use of crime rates when it comes to assessing = a police force's efficiency. "It's good to be able to use that comparison internally to measure how other police departments are doing," he says. But he adds that there is a certain amount of comparison between apples = and oranges when murder rates logged in big cities are compared on the same = page with those of smaller - much smaller - towns. "I think a city like Saskatoon should be compared with Laval, Sherbrooke = or Gatineau," he said. But no matter how the numbers are compiled, it seems the biggest = challenge facing Montreal police is proving to residents that they're safer than = they think. *** A truly difficult problem, directly related to the "If it bleeds, It leads" ***mentality of the media! But is part of that problem of perception based on how the news media = report crime? *** Resoundingly YES!!! Note how School shootings follow periods of = intense media ***coverage, sometimes with a number of shootings in a row but = mostly the ***reporting of older incidents. This sometimes leads to copycat killings by=20 ***persons wanting to be more famous or infamous that the person = currently in the ***news "The media is simply feeding a need on the part of the public," he says. "But media can make an event and create the impression it's bigger than = it is. *** A case in point, the so called Montreal Massacre involving Gamil = Gharbi! *** When my Sister was killed along with 36 others in the deliberately = set fire=20 ***at the Wagon Wheel Country and Western club located above the = Bluebird Cafe on ***Union Street in Montreal on Labour Day, 1972. The Drapeau Government wasted no time in = harassing the families of ***victims and the media quickly pushed the story from = the front pages to cover ***the Canada Russia Hockey series. =20 "A murder in the m=E9tro can be talked about for weeks, even though = (hundreds of thousands) people a day use the system and an event like that is = rare. "Look at home invasions - their rate of occurrence has nothing to do = with their rate of being reported in the media." *** More to the point is the call by some politicians and echoed in the media, to ***create a separate offense in the Criminal Code to deal with "Home Invasions". ***The fact that the Offence of Break and Entering = into a dwelling house and ***committing an indictable offence therein, is in = fact a "Home Invasion" and ***already carries a maximum penalty of Life Imprisonment. That this is ***totally ignored by the courts is = ludicrous but when politicians and media ***start calling for new offences to be created it only shows their ignorance! Then there's the apparent contradiction discovered by police surveys = over where people feel they're safe. "They always feel safer in their own neighbourhood," Desroches says. = "Even if it's a neighbourhood where there's crime, they feel safer there than = 'in the city.' But there's a joke we like to tell when people say they're worried about going downtown. It's a fact that most homicide victims are murdered by friends or relations - people they know. In it, the editor made this comment "What freedoms have we lost?" I am delighted to enlighten The Sun's editor by illustrating the Liberal's unjust Canadian Firearms Act of 1995 and that law's infringements upon Canadian civil liberties. The Firearms Act infringes upon: the right to liberty, the right to security of the person, the right to procedural fairness, the right to privacy, the right to unreasonable search and seizure, the right to be presumed innocent, the right against arbitrary detention, the right to counsel upon arrest or detention, the right to freedom of expression, the right to bear arms (Canadians get that right from the same place as the Americans, the English Bill of Right of 1689), the right to property, and equal rights. Editor, after this wakes you up, we can begin discussing the Liberal's "Anti-terrorism Act (ATA). Similar in nature to the Firearms Act, this law has permitted our police to lay charges against the news media about which, I am sure, you would be most interested.
