Last night Toronto Police homicide detectives revealed officers in Scarborough had arrested the suspect on un-related gun and drug charges just 14 hours after Barton was gunned down. "Fourteen hours in a murder investigation is a blink of the eye," Det.-Sgt. Peter Moreira told reporters at police headquarters. Barton and his killer were involved in a confrontation at 2:45 p.m. Monday at a bus stop on Eglinton Ave. W. near Keele St., Moreira said, and it ended with "a number of shots being fired." "The entire incident happened very quickly," he said. He declined to disclose a motive for the killing but said it wasn't "a random act." "It occurred for a specific reason," he said, adding that will come out in court. Several people were openly hostile to officers investigating the city's 47th murder of 2008, he said, but other residents of the drug- and gun-plagued neighbourhood "gave us tremendous co-operation." A number of witnesses provided "critical information." "The area is known to be frequented by gang members," Moreira said, and many residents "have had enough." With their co-operation, police can solve these cases, he said. "Solving any crime, including a murder, is a collaborative effort." The investigation includes checking into the victim's background for possible gang links. A memorial at the bus stop has attracted tributes in blue -- the colour associated with the Crips street gang. Moreira would not say if a gun seized by police at the bus stop had been fired. But he stressed there are no known ties to the murder Tuesday on Hwy. 401. Damion Sinclair, 18, of Toronto is charged with second-degree murder. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Sep 2008 12:32:24 -0700 (PDT) From: Bruce Mills Subject: [none] http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Alberta/2008/09/11/6731386-sun.html Family terrorized Thieves disguised as deliverymen tie up residents in home invasion - Calgary Sun By DAVE DORMER, SUN MEDIA Thu, September 11, 2008 Armed intruders posing as deliverymen forced their way into a northeast home yesterday and tied up a young family before making off with televisions, jewelry and cash in the family's truck. Neighbour Anjali Purba said her 13-year-old daughter was at home about 1:30 p.m. yesterday in the 100 block of Taracove Cres. N.E. when a woman came to the door with her wrists tied and duct tape over her mouth. The woman told the young girl that she, her husband and young child had been terrorized by a group of five armed men. "She said (the intruders) had blue jackets on and they had a big box for delivery," said Purba. "There was nothing to sign so she called her husband and (the intruders) kept coming in and called other people. "She said she didn't want anything from them then they pointed a gun at her." Purba said the apparent home invasion left her shaken. "It's very scary," she said. "It could have been our house." Purba said the woman described her attackers as three white men and two black men. Insp. Richard Hinse said police had no suspects and had not yet found a motive. "(The intruders) were in the house for approximately 20 to 30 minutes," he said. "Shortly thereafter the husband and wife were able to free themselves and contact the police service." Hinse said the family is not known to police and the attack did not appear to be drug-related. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. ------------------------------ End of Cdn-Firearms Digest V12 #133 *********************************** Submissions: mailto:cdn-firearms-digest@scorpion.bogend.ca Mailing List Commands: mailto:majordomo@scorpion.bogend.ca Moderator's e-mail address: mailto:drg.jordan@sasktel.net List owner: mailto:owner-cdn-firearms@scorpion.bogend.ca FAQ list: http://www.canfirearms/Skeeter/Faq/cfd-faq1.html Web Site: http://www.canfirearms.ca CFDigest Archives: http://www.canfirearms.ca/archives To unsubscribe from _all_ the lists, put the next four lines in a message and mailto:majordomo@scorpion.bogend.ca unsubscribe cdn-firearms-digest unsubscribe cdn-firearms-chat unsubscribe cdn-firearms end (To subscribe, use "subscribe" instead of "unsubscribe".)
