The blame is rightly placed on the shooter, but blood is also on the hands of Cinemark Theaters and the city council of Aurora, Colorado. Aurora has a municipal ordinance which makes it illegal to carry into a premises that is posted "no guns." In other words, the city gave private signage the force of law. Cinemark theaters has had a no guns policy for some time, and has asked law-abiding citizens to leave for exercising their natural and Constitutional right to armed self-defense. Shame on them. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2012 11:35:27 -0600 From: Edward Hudson Subject: Hudson v. Attorney General of Canada – Remaining Items ... to Clear File Saturday, 21 July 2012 VIA EMAIL Don Klaassen, Council, Prairie Region Department of Justice 10th Floor, 123 – 2nd Avenue South Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7K 7E6 Dear Mr. Klaassen, Re: Hudson v. Attorney General of Canada – Remaining Items to Clear File Thank you for your letter of 16 July 2012 confirming our telephone conversation of 10 July 2012. I appreciate your succinct, point-form summary of the three remaining items in Mr. Spencer’s old “Hudson File”.(1) I have a concern with Point # 2, the Federal Crown’s position regarding the revocation issued on 18 March 2005 of the Registration Certificates of four of my firearms, and their demand that I surrender these four rifles. I note that the Federal Crown’s position is that this subject is now “moot”. I further note that the word “moot” has several diametrically opposite meanings – the first meaning being “open to discussion or debate.” Since this fracas began with the letter from the Canadian Firearms Center demanding that I surrender these four rifles, I believe that this action should end with the Canadian Firearms Center (or whatever office or department the CFC may have morphed into over the intervening years) sending me a letter declaring and certifying that all the records relating to these four firearms have been destroyed, and further, that the Canadian Firearms Center retracts their demand that I surrender these four rifles. Concerning Point #1, our agreement that I pay two thousand ($2,000.xx) dollars to be shed of all court costs involved with the case that began in Humboldt, since this is suppose to be a “final clearance” of my file, I would like to render this payment only after I receive the letter afore mentioned regarding my rifles. And concerning Point #1, the court ordered forfeiture of my two shotguns to Her Majesty the Queen, I would again like to request that in these types of firearms seizures where no real crime has occurred, the Crown make these firearms available to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation for their fund raising projects for wildlife habitat renewal. Please note that Point #4 concerning restricted or prohibited firearms has no reference, relation, nor bearing to any of my discussions or interactions with Mr. Spencer in any of our court matters. I trust that these refinements to our agreement will be acceptable to all Crown parties involved. Sincerely, Edward B. Hudson DVM, MS Secretary Ref: 1. We extend our condolences to the families and friends of the victims and pray for the recovery of the injured. Unfortunately, the opponents and liberty will not hesitate to dance on the victims' graves while singing their tired songs of firearm bans and confiscations. Already, the Brady Bunch has called this "yet another horrific reminder that guns enable mass killings." At JPFO, we take a more commonsensical, measured approach. Lunatic mass murderers will not be stopped by gun bans or confiscations; those with criminal intent will always find a way to access firearms. If we revoke freedoms and liberties in reaction to every tragedy, we will soon not only outlaw all guns, but also knives, screwdrivers, hammers, pipes, and eventually pens. But blaming the tools is just a small step better than blaming the victims. Instead, let's put the blame where it belongs: on the murderer. At best, he should be given a life sentence with no chance of parole. But feel-good sophists -- the same feel-good sophists who would confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens who want no more than to have a tool to defend their families -- want us to ignore the criminal and blame the tool. I know that there are a lot of people here who have been so engaged in the campaign, have sacrificed so much, people who've been involved back since 2007. And - and - and so I want all of you to know how appreciative I am. And I know many of you came here today for a campaign event. I was looking forward to having a fun conversation with you about some really important matters that we face as a country and the differences between myself and my opponent in this election. But this morning, we woke up to news of a tragedy that reminds us of all the ways that we are united as one American family. By now many of you know, many of you have heard that a few miles outside of Denver, in a town called Aurora, at least 12 people were killed when a gunman opened fire in a movie theater. And dozens more are being treated for injuries at a local hospital. Some of the victims are being treated at a children's hospital. We're still gathering all the facts about what happened in Aurora, but what we do know is that the police have one suspect in custody, and the federal government stands ready to do whatever's necessary to bring whoever's responsible for this heinous crime to justice. And we will take every step possible to ensure the safety of all of our people. We're going to stand by our neighbors in Colorado during this extraordinarily difficult time. And I had a chance to speak with the mayor of Aurora, as well as the governor of Colorado, to express, not just on behalf of Michelle and myself, but the entire American family, how heartbroken we are. Now, even as we learn how this happened and who's responsible, we may never understand what leads anybody to terrorize their fellow human beings like this. Such violence, such evil is senseless. It's beyond reason. But while we will never know fully what causes somebody to take the life of another, we do know what makes life worth living. The people we lost in Aurora loved and they were loved. They were mothers and fathers. They were husbands and wives, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters, friends and neighbors. They had hopes for the future and they had dreams that were not yet fulfilled. And if there's anything to take away from this tragedy it's the reminder that life is very fragile, our time here is limited and it is precious, and what matters at the end of the day is not the small things, it's not the trivial things which so often consume us and our daily lives. Ultimately, it's how we choose to treat one another and how we love one another. It's what we do on a daily basis to give our lives meaning and to give our lives purpose. That's what matters. You know, at the end of the day, what we'll remember will be those we loved and what we did for others. That's why we're here. I'm sure that many of you who are parents here had the same reaction that I did when I heard this news. You know, my daughters go to the movies. What if Malia and Sasha had been at the theater, as so many of our kids do every day? Michelle and I will be fortunate enough to hug our girls a little tighter tonight, and I'm sure you will do the same with your children. But for those parents who may not be so lucky, we have to embrace them and let them know we will be there for them as a nation. So, again, I am - I'm so grateful that all of you are here. I am - I am - I am so moved by your support. But there are going to be other days for politics. This, I think, is a day for prayer and reflection for ... So - so what I'd - what I'd ask everybody to do, I'd like us to pause in a moment of silence for the victims of this terrible tragedy, for the people who knew them and loved them, for those who are still struggling to recover, and for all the victims of less publicized acts of violence that plague our communities every single day. So if everybody can just take a moment. Thank you, everybody. I hope all of you will keep the people of Aurora in your hearts and minds today. May the Lord bring them comfort and healing in hard days to come. I am grateful to all of you. And I hope that, as a consequence of today's events, as you leave here, you spend a little time thinking about the incredible blessings that God has given us. Thank you very much, everybody. God bless you. God bless the United States of America. Thank you. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2012 12:02:35 -0600 From: "Joe Gingrich" Subject: Lesson of Colorado Lesson of Colorado From Mike Vanderboegh, winner of JPFO's David and Goliath Award for speaking truth to power. http://jpfo.org/articles-assd02/lesson-of-colorado.htm Lesson of Colorado: Ignore Victim Disarmament Zones and pack concealed anyway From Mike Vanderboegh (with permission), sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot Copyright Vanderboegh, JPFO. Inc 2012 Friday, July 20, 2012 You know, my daughters go to the movies. What if Malia and Sasha had been at the theater, as so many of our kids do every day?-- Barack Obama reacting to the "Colorado Movie Massacre." I'll tell you what would have happened -- the Secret Service protective detail would have put several bullets through the facepiece of the moke's gas mask -- end of story. The hypocrisy of these Mandarins, who live in bodyguard envelopes whenever they venture out of their designated Green Zones, knows no bounds. One of my daughters went to another midnight showing of the same movie here in Birmingham last night. She went with her boyfriend who was packing his permitted FEG Browning Hi-Power clone, despite the fact that the theater has a "no guns" policy. Virginia Citizens Defense League lists Cinemark Theaters (which also owns Tinseltown, Cinearts, and Century Theatres) as being victim disarmament zones upon orders of the management. If so, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. Of course, as I lay on the couch upstairs this morning trying to control my nausea, I watched the predictable blood dancers of the victim disarmament crowd (Bloomberg, the Brady Bunch, et. al.) who made it more difficult to hold down my breakfast (a struggle I ultimately lost). To me, the lesson of last night is to ignore Victim Disarmament Zones and pack concealed anyway. Only you are responsible for your safety, not some risk-averse corporate drone a thousand miles away. We will find out in time what motivated this particular lunatic, but the essential lesson is that only the ARMED intended victims of a mass shooting can interrupt the shooter in time to make a difference. The same goes for government-sponsored genocides, as the Jewish people have learned too many times in history. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2012 12:15:56 -0600 From: "Joe Gingrich" Subject: Off-duty cop shoots, kills son after mistaking him for intruder http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/07/22/off-duty-cop-shoots-kills-son-after-mistaking-him-for-intruder/?testlatestnews Off-duty cop shoots, kills son after mistaking him for intruder Published July 22, 2012 Associated Press OLD FORGE, NY - State troopers say a police officer in New York shot and killed his son, mistaking him for an intruder. Troopers say Parry Police Department Officer Michael Leach called 911 to report the shooting early Saturday. He was staying at the Clark Beach Motel and shot someone he believed to be an intruder. But the man turned out to be his 37-year-old son, Matthew Leach, according to the Syracuse Post-Standard. Troopers say Leach used his department-issued .45-caliber Glock handgun in the shooting. He was hospitalized after the shooting. Buchanan 7/20/2012 07:00 AM Mitt Romney is today the beneficiary of some desperate counsel from alarmed Republicans on how to escape the snare in which he has found himself. Democrats are charging that Mitt was still chairman and CEO of Bain Capital between 1999 and 2002, when the company was advising some of America's premier outsourcers. The facts are in dispute. But the evidence seems on the side of the Romney camp - that Mitt did not run Bain after he went off to fix the Salt Lake City Olympics. Yet the matter raises a larger question. What has the Republican Party got against outsourcing? Does not the party establishment preach the gospel of free trade? Did not the Republican Party come to the rescue of NAFTA and GATT when Bill Clinton cried for help in fighting off the wicked protectionists? Did not the GOP foreign and economic policy elite endorse entry into a World Trade Organization where we have no veto and one vote? The Chamber of Commerce, Business Roundtable and National Association of Manufacturers, all GOP allies, proclaim the right of U.S. corporations to move production out of America - to where taxes are lower, regulations lighter and labor cheaper. When has any GOP platform ever laid the wood on a U.S. corporate behemoth like GE, Boeing or Apple that moved production abroad? The GOP has long been a celebrant of the Global Economy and benefited mightily from the contributions of lobbyists and executives of companies that outsource. Under GOP-blessed rules of free trade, these corporations are able to shutter plants here, move to Latin America or Asia, and produce there. Now they have the right to bring their China-made goods back to the United States, duty-free, and fill the malls of America with those goods. As Republicans rightly argue, by cutting the cost of production by moving it abroad, companies can offer lower prices for those goods here at home. Soaring profits from those higher sales mean higher stock prices and dividends, not to mention seven- and eight-figure salaries for the corporate magicians who work such miracles. But as Milton Friedman observed, "There is no such thing as a free lunch." And though Milton was its champion, free trade is no free lunch. While there are winners from free trade, there are also losers. First among them are high-wage U.S. factory workers whose plants are closed when production moves abroad. Next are factory workers who lose their jobs when foreign-made goods fill up the malls and the companies they work for, companies that stayed in the U.S.A., go under. Was it a free lunch for the 6 million who lost manufacturing jobs in the last decade when 50,000 U.S. factories disappeared? Has it been a free lunch for the American worker who has not seen a pay raise in four decades? And what of the nation? For decades, America has been de-industrializing, with manufacturing shrinking as a share of gross domestic product to 11 percent, from over 30 percent in 1950. Not since before the Civil War have we been so dependent on foreign goods for the necessities of our national life, including the national defense. Our independence is a thing of yesterday. This was the predicted and inevitable fruit of globalization. Is this good for America? Perhaps if one is a believing globalist. Then, whatever the result of globalization, whoever the winners and losers, that is what is best, for a globalized world is the best of all worlds. This, of course, is not patriotism talking, or the voice of wisdom born of experience. It is a recitation from the globalist catchism. When the history of American decline is written, the historians will zero in on a choice the nation made, when the interests of Middle America collided with those of Corporate America. Decades ago, America's great companies, having saturated the U.S. market, wanted to go out and capture the world's markets. Free to move production out of the U.S.A., they wanted to be able to bring their products back to the United States, duty-free. Make them there; sell them here. And if the U.S. companies were to be allowed to produce and to sell in foreign countries, those countries wanted the right to dump their goods in the U.S.A. And here is where the national interest and the interests of Corporate America diverged. Here is where what was good for the boardroom elite collided with what was best for Middle America. And this conflict could not be reconciled. The party had to choose. And the party chose K Street over Main Street. Free trade, the Kennedy Round of trade negotiations, the Uruguay Round, the Doha Round, NAFTA, GATT, the WTO - what they all produced is a Magna Carta of the transnational corporation, which looks longingly to the end of nation-states and the arrival of world government. Did the Republican songbirds of globalization not understand this? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2012 15:27:25 -0600 From: Larry James Fillo Subject: 'Dark Knight Rises' shooting: Three heroes died in Aurora ... ... taking bullets for their girlfriends" Men dying, doing what men in the West have always done, protecting their women. - --------------------------------------------- http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/aurora-shooting-died-bullets- sweeties-article-1.1119395 In final acts of valor, Jon Blunk, Matt McQuinn and Alex Teves used their bodies to shield their girlfriends as accused madman James Holmes turned the Aurora cineplex into a shooting gallery. Blunk’s girlfriend, Jansen Young; McQuinn’s girlfriend, Samantha Yowler; and Teves’ gal pal Amanda Lindgren made it out of the bloodbath — but they would have been killed had it not been for the loves of their lives. “He’s a hero, and he’ll never be forgotten,” a tearful Jansen Young told the Daily News of Blunk. “Jon took a bullet for me.” She was too distraught to speak more, but her mother called Blunk, 25, who had two young children from a previous relationship, “a gentleman.” “He was loving, the kind of guy you want your daughter to be with, and ultimately, she’s alive because of this, because he protected her,” Shellie Young said. She said Blunk, a security guard, had served in the Navy and had recently filled out papers to reenlist with a goal of becoming a Navy SEAL. “To her, he was a hero anyway because he wanted to serve his country,” she said of her daughter, who was left with shrapnel wounds to her side. “He said that all the time: ‘I was born to serve my country.’” Jansen Young, 21, said Blunk took her to see Friday’s midnight premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises” to celebrate her graduation from veterinarian school. As the black-clad killer burst into the theater and unleashed tear gas and a torrent of indiscriminate gunfire, Blunk selflessly protected his girlfriend. He pushed Jansen on the ground and under her seat, then threw his body on top of her, the mother said. “He was 6-feet-2, in incredible shape, which is why he was able to push her down under the seats of the theater,” the mother said. “He pushed her down on the floor and laid down on top of her and he died there.” Alex Teves pushed his girlfriend, Amanda Lindgren, to the floor to shield her when bullets began flying in the movie theater and was struck himself. She said her daughter instantly fell in love with Blunk when they met at a local mall, where he worked as a security guard. “She just plain fell in love with his good looks,” the mother said. “She walked up and handed him a piece of paper and said, ‘Here’s my number.’” “She just found it incredible that someone would spend eight years of their life in the Navy.” Blunk’s estranged wife, Chantel Blunk, 26, of Reno, Nev., said he died fulfilling a lifelong dream. “He always wanted to be a superhero, he’s wanting to save someone or do something greater,” said the mother of Blunk’s kids, Hailey, 4, and Maximus, 2. Blunk was scheduled to travel to Reno Saturday to see his children and resolve some marital issues, she said. “My daughter can’t comprehend it, and keeps wanting to call him,” said Chantel Blunk. “I try to tell her that her daddy loves her and will always be there.” Randall Blunk, 47, of Reno, said his son had served in the Navy for more than five years, mostly aboard the Nimitz in the Persian Gulf. “He’s a badass. That’s just how he was. He’s not afraid,” Randall Blunk, who raised his son as a single father, told The News. “I love my boy, I just loved him.” Jansen Young told her mother she could feel Blunk holding her tight as chaos reigned in the movie theater. She said she heard a woman nearby screaming, “I’ve been shot!” and recalled the “boom, boom, boom” of gunfire and smelling gunpowder. “There was kind of a break in between each gunshot,” Jansen told the “Today” show. “Every gunshot, I was like, ‘This is it . . . I’m done for.’ Jon gave me one good push against that concrete again and then . . . I didn’t really feel his arms against my back anymore but I knew he was still there.” When the shooting subsided, she realized Blunk was shot. “I started shaking him and saying, ‘Jon, Jon, we have to go . . . it’s time for us to get out of here,’” she said, adding that she tried to pull Blunk by the shoulder, but he didn’t move. Equally heroic was the 24-year-old Teves, who hurled his girlfriend to the floor as bullets whizzed through the theater. “He pushed her to the floor to save her and he ended up getting a bullet,” said his aunt, Barbara Slivinske, 57. “He was gonna hit the floor himself, but he never made it.” Samantha Yowler had a similar story of horror and heroism about her boyfriend, Matt McQuinn, whose last living act was to shield her from death. Yowler, 26, survived with a gunshot wound to the knee and is in fair condition after undergoing surgery. McQuinn’s family credited his quick actions for saving Samantha’s life. Witnesses said he dove on top of his girlfriend as the shooting started and that Samantha’s brother, Nick, who was also in the theater, helped get her out of harm’s way. Nick Yowler was unharmed in the shooting. “Both the Yowler and McQuinn families thank everyone for their concerns, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” the McQuinns’ lawyer, Robert Scott, said in a statement. “Unfortunately, Matt perished from the injuries he sustained during the tragic events that unfolded . . . and went home to be with his maker.” McQuinn, 27, and Yowler met at a Target store in Springfield, Ohio, where they worked. They transferred to a Target in Aurora last November. “He was a great outgoing person,” a co-worker at the Colorado Target told The News. “We lost a great person and we still can’t picture or realize that he’s gone.” Co-worker Shelly Aquino said she works closely with Yowler, who was to help her open the store Saturday morning. She said she cried when she opened the store on her own. “This morning was very hard, but I need to work,” Aquino said. She said she last spoke to Yowler Thursday afternoon. “The last hug we gave each other was on Thursday. She’s a great person, she’s very responsible ... she doesn’t hesitate to help out.” ------------------------------ End of Cdn-Firearms Digest V15 #186 *********************************** Submissions: mailto:cdn-firearms-digest@scorpion.bogend.ca Mailing List Commands: mailto:majordomo@scorpion.bogend.ca Moderator's email: mailto:owner-cdn-firearms@scorpion.bogend.ca List owner: mailto:owner-cdn-firearms@scorpion.bogend.ca FAQ list: http://www.canfirearms/Skeeter/Faq/cfd-faq1.html Web Site: http://www.canfirearms.ca CFDigest Archives: http://www.canfirearms.ca/archives To unsubscribe from _all_ the lists, put the next four lines in a message and mailto:majordomo@scorpion.bogend.ca unsubscribe cdn-firearms-digest unsubscribe cdn-firearms-chat unsubscribe cdn-firearms end (To subscribe, use "subscribe" instead of "unsubscribe".)
