He pushes because it is good for Canada. The really big push is American business who are financing the oil sands and have done so with that as a market for the increased production. The American market is huge and will grow as the recession recedes. If they have enough surplus to sell into export markets, they'll do that with oil sands crude as well as their own. Their refining capacity is in the Gulf and the west coast. From their they can export to Asia. They won't give up any opportunity. Americans are funding the anti-oil pipeline movement here so they can get Canadian oil at less than world prices. So far it's working. As long as that is the only market we can sell into we can't get the world price. No doubt the many of the railways, full to capacity tanker cars, are largely going south. It's more expensive and risky for spills but that will expand capacity if a new pipeline isn't built. Some of it now is being unloaded in Vancouver ports to be shipped to west coast U.S. refineries. The pressure to complete another southern pipeline is enormous. Even ordinary Americans agree with it. It's only how long can Obama resist it? Johnson was in Jackson to compete at the Bassmaster Central Open on Ross Barnett Reservoir scheduled to begin Oct. 17. Johnson was staying with his wife at a Motel 6 on Frontage Road near Interstate 55. Jackson Police Department spokesperson Colendula Green said the department received the call of the shooting at 7:48 p.m. Sunday. Jackson police are looking for a black male suspect that appeared on security camera footage. Chris Bowes, senior tournament manager for the Bassmaster Opens, said in a release that a friend of Johnson discovered someone burglarizing his boat. The shooting took place shortly thereafter. His wife was not injured. When contacted Monday afternoon, Green said the investigation was still on-going. "There was some sort of violent altercation near his hotel room door," Bowes told The Clarion-Ledger Johnson, of Ganado, Texas, was 11th in Central Open standings after two events. The top five anglers from each of three open divisions qualify for the elite series. Johnson was in the top five percent of the nearly 200 fisherman who have competed in the central division this year, according to Bowes. Johnson entered the final open event of the season with a chance to qualify for the highest division in 2014. "Jimmy was a terrific angler, as he has shown through the Bassmaster Opens," Bowes said. "More than that, he was a tremendous guy. He will be deeply missed." BASS CEO Bruce Akin released a statement regarding Johnson's death: "We were shocked and saddened to learn late Sunday night that Jimmy Johnson was killed while staying in a motel near the lake. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as the bass fishing community rallies around them." Official practice for the open event began Monday morning, but Bowes said it was common for anglers to arrive early over the weekend to take advantage of no limits on the amount of fish that can be caught. Bowes said was not sure when Johnson and his wife arrived in Jackson. The Central Open is the first Bassmaster event at Ross Barnett Reservoir in over a decade, according to Bowes. He said they planned to honor Johnson at the registration event Wednesday evening. "The event will go on and we know that it was an isolated incident," Bowes said. We don't want to lose focus and everyone there will have a heavy heart." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Oct 2013 14:28:39 -0700 From: Len Miller Subject: Adam Kokesh Alone and suffering: Solitary confinement is ... ...its own form of torture Bruce is the direct target of the fraudulent gun control legislation when introduced PROMISED that Bruce Montagues . . would never happen. A dozen years following 9/11 should have erased any remaining doubt that Osama bin Laden spoke for many in the Arab-Muslim world who believe Islam is locked in a millennial conflict with the West, and victory will belong to the party that has the faith to take defeats and yet remain on the field of battle as the last man standing. Bin Laden and his associates might well be described as the crudest expression of this deep-seated conviction of Islamist thinking and practice — that Islam is politics in action, not merely a religion, with the mission to establish its system of government based on the Shariah. Waging war, engaging in diplomacy, signing treaties, and maintaining or breaking truce are merely means in the pursuit of the end that Islamist doctrine prescribes. Hamlet’s dilemma was how to act commensurate with the knowledge of the crime given him by the ghost of the murdered king, his father. The tragedy that unfolds in Shakespeare’s drama is a result of action delayed and ineptly executed by the Prince of Denmark. The West cannot play Hamlet, while Islamists have mastered the art of exploiting the West’s niceties to their advantage. It is instructive to note Islamists are most cautious in dealing with Russians and Chinese — that neither Moscow nor Beijing will hesitate in using disproportionate force when needed and will not be troubled by any doubt over actions taken against Islamist terrorism. But what is worse than playing Hamlet is playing the role at the expense of another. The West does this with Israel. Sitting in the shadow of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem one evening when visiting Israel, it became strikingly clear to me, as it is to most Israelis, that the ground zero of the millennial conflict between Islam and the West is right where I sat. Islamists have made it amply clear, and the vast majority of Muslims support them, that this millennial conflict will not cease until Israel is annihilated. Those Muslims small in numbers who repudiate such obscenity are in turn repudiated, ostracized, or killed as apostates from Islam. Israelis are left with no choice but to act with wisdom and courage in doing whatever is necessary for survival. Yet instead of resolutely supporting Israel, many in the West have parked their discredited anti-Semitism inside mosques to appease Islamists. In an ancient temple located outside of India’s capital are found words inscribed on the wall, “Coincidences, if traced far back enough, become inevitable.” The recurrent conflict between Hamas and Israel in Gaza, as was 9/11 and many similar, can be traced back sufficiently to see a pattern whose message brooks no doubting. Meanwhile, as part of our continuing series on the paramilitarized bureaucracy, following Seal Team Six I’ve tipped my hat in this space to Bunny Team Six and Deer Team Six. Now we have Chicken Team Six: EPA Facing Fire For Armed Raid On Mine In Chicken, Alaska: Population, 7 I think that “EPA facing fire” stuff is metaphorical. As we’ve seen with the IRS, and no doubt with the Park Service, too, the thug enforcers of the bureaucracy can get away with almost anything. I doubt anyone at the EPA is worrying too much over this: The Environmental Protection Agency is coming under increasing fire for a raid conducted in Alaska this summer by armed agents seeking violations of the Clean Water Act. Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell announced late Thursday that he has named a special counsel to investigate the August incident in the tiny town of Chicken, Alaska, shortly after Republicans at a House subcommittee hearing characterized the episode as an effort to intimidate miners… “We consider them raids,” said Mr. Maier. “It was a serious invasion.” “An EPA SWAT team”? My Senate campaign platform will include a promise to introduce a bill abolishing the SWAT teams of the EPA, IRS, NPS, Department of Education et al. One of the most repulsive features of contemporary American government is the way every tinpot agency head has his own personal stormtroops. In civilized societies, if the paper-shufflers want to kick a citizen’s door down, they should be required to get a warrant from a judge and have it served by the regular constabulary. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, October 14, 2013 8:02 pm From: "Dennis R. Crime rose rapidly, but then, according to government figures, crime began to fall. Is this really so? It has become evident from an examination of official documents that a massive deception has evolved around their reporting of crime statistics. British subjects, themselves, do not trust the sudden turnaround in the figures. Nor do we. We think that something stinks in the UK, and it appears to be the cultivation of rotten statistics and its cover-up. Here is what we found. Professor Adrian Smith, in a report commissioned by the Secretary of State for the Home Office said: "The Home Secretary is concerned that public trust in the crime statistics produced by the Home Office has declined to such an extent that it is no longer possible to have a debate about alternative criminal justice policies on the basis of agreed facts about the trends in crime." Professor Smith was on the mark, as British subjects do, in fact, believe that they are the targets of crime. According to Louise Casey in her 2008 survey "one in three (33%) had been a victim of crime, or knew someone well who had been, within the last year", and "nearly half (45%) knew of someone in their community who had been a victim in the last year." Casey further reported that "a very significant number [of British subjects] expressed concerns about coming forward more generally to intervene, report crime or give evidence." SO, WHAT IS THE TRUTH ABOUT CRIME IN THE UK? You might think only oppressive regimes have political prisoners, but we have no shortage in America. Of course, that begs the question: What is your definition of a repressive regime? A government that fights to maintain the status quo? A government that criminalizes normal behavior? A government that stifles opportunity? A government that provides the primary mechanisms of the poor getting poorer while the rich get richer? A government that sends people to die in unnecessary wars to benefit bankers and profiteers? A government that does not even pretend to follow its own rules? A government that seeks control by prosecuting dissidents for victimless crimes? Welcome to America! I have been in jail for over three months for loading a shotgun at Freedom Plaza on Independence Day in defiance of DC gun laws to assert my rights allegedly protected by the 2nd amendment. I have yet to be indicted, let alone tried. My home was raided and ransacked for over 5 hours. I was kept in solitary confinement in cells with ants, cockroaches, water leaks, lights on for 24 hours a day, without a mattress, and I was fed so little I lost 15 pounds in the first three weeks. This is what "gun control" looks like. I harmed or threatened no one, yet for this victimless non-crime, I have been held without bail because of clerical errors that my judge refuses to acknowledge. I have been called "a danger to the community," but the real danger is a government that seeks to make you dependent by denying your right to self-defense. Gun control is not about guns. It's about control. It's about making you dependent on a government monopoly on force. It not only looks like my persecution, it looks like rising crime rates in cities where attackers know their victims will be disarmed. It looks like rape victims unable to defend themselves on college campuses. It looks like mass shootings that are all the more deadly because they happen in "gun-free zones." It looks like a government that acts like it owns us, rather than serves us. It looks like a citizenry afraid to stand up for the freedom of self-ownership. It looks like a people unwilling to assert that they will not be enslaved. It looks like you are just waiting for someone to fight and win back your right to be a free, beautiful, independent human being! It looks like America today. I am a civil rights activist, but I am not a leader. In order for us to have a truly free society, we must be the alphas of our own lives. As a humble civil servant, I can only hope my sacrifice has served to stir your conscience. I care more about making you think than making you like me. When I go to trial, I will be arguing that if there is no victim, there is no crime, and it will not just be my civil disobedience on trial, not just gun control, not just the enforcement of unconstitutional laws, not just the criminal injustice system, but the entire idea of government force and the government that has become the greatest enemy of freedom will be on trial. I will be fighting for my freedom, and yours, but you will never be free until you stand up for yourself and demand to be free. I would never ask you to follow me, but I dearly hope that you will join me. Free in mind and spirit, if not in body, and yours always, Adam Kokesh ok, talk to you guys soon!!! According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the case is "being touted as a key example of the cooperation between licensed firearm dealers and police in stopping prohibited gun sales." Apparently 27-year-old Lamont Reaves, who has a felony crack cocaine offense and other previous gun related charges, is unable to legally purchase a firearm, but attempted to do so anyway at the Virginia gun show. Not only did he not get a gun, but the dealers he tried to buy from contacted the authorities to alert them of what he was trying to do. According to witnesses, Reaves went from table to table at the gun show trying to get someone to sell him a gun privately without a background check. The venders refused to sell to him and several of the federally licensed firearms dealers contacted state trooper D.M. Sottile, who works closely with the FFL's during gun shows. Sottile identified Reaves, verified that he was a convicted felon and subsequently arrested him. Sottile stated that several of the dealers were also willing to testify against Reaves had the case gone to trial. The prosecutor in Reaves' case and former police officer, Robert C. Cerullo, used this case as a prime example of the cooperation between law enforcement and federally licensed firearms dealers in an effort to keep guns out of the wrong hands. Sottile also stated that he and other state troopers have developed relationships with firearms dealers at the gun shows, which has been instrumental in reducing illegal gun sales. "Licensed gun dealers play a major role in stopping illegal gun purchases, especially straw purchases," in which one individual makes a purchase for another individual because that individual cannot legally make the purchase themselves, Sottile said. "In my experience at gun shows and licensed firearms storefronts throughout the Richmond area, dealers have contacted me if they suspect someone - through his or her conversation with the customer or the customer's odd behavior - is attempting to make an illegal purchase." Sottile added. "I can't thank the dealers enough with whom I work with for their help in aiding in criminal prosecution." Virginia state law - like many other states - currently allows the purchase of firearms through a private party without a background check. Gun control advocates have long used this as an example of where guns wind up in the hands of those in which they don't belong and they therefore push for background checks with every single gun purchase, including those made at gun sales through private sellers, what's commonly known as the "gun show loophole." Of course, gun rights advocates argue that these sales make up only a very small percentage of overall purchases and that most responsible gun owners take steps to ensure that they are not selling to an individual who has had their rights to gun ownership revoked, such as convicted felons and those involuntarily committed for mental illness. But it's difficult to say how prominent these transactions are since they aren't tracked. "I've heard the argument from Mayors Against Illegal Guns, but how does anyone say whether they are numerous or not if we don't track it?" Cerullo said. "They say it happens all the time. Maybe. But then maybe not." Nonetheless, the continued cooperation between federally licensed firearms dealers and law enforcement will ensure that individuals like Reaves will not simply walk into a gun show and illegally purchase a firearm. ------------------------------ End of Cdn-Firearms Digest V15 #975 *********************************** Submissions: mailto:cdn-firearms-digest@scorpion.bogend.ca Mailing List Commands: mailto:majordomo@scorpion.bogend.ca Moderator email: mailto:owner-cdn-firearms@scorpion.bogend.ca List owner: mailto:owner-cdn-firearms@scorpion.bogend.ca FAQ list: http://www.canfirearms/Skeeter/Faq/cfd-faq1.html Web Site: http://www.canfirearms.ca CFDigest Archives: http://www.canfirearms.ca/archives To unsubscribe from _all_ the lists, put the next four lines in a message and mailto:majordomo@scorpion.bogend.ca unsubscribe cdn-firearms-digest unsubscribe cdn-firearms-chat unsubscribe cdn-firearms end (To subscribe, use "subscribe" instead of "unsubscribe".)
