Clearly, word has gotten out to those who want to die in such a tragic manner, the current protocols make that easier than it's ever been. Using an umbrella in the dark hunched over worked perfectly as he planned. The article doesn't indicate he threatened or tried to shoot anyone with the umbrella. He knew he didn't need to. Pointing a firearm earlier on set the scenario under which he knew they'd react. If anyone has seen the ending to the Clint Eastwood film Gran Torino. This used identical modus operandi, except in the film there were people who were made to feel directly targeted. The judge raises the issue of public safety, though the deceased never threatened or acted against any member of the public with the firearms he possessed. Nor did he fire on the officers who entered his house though he had the opportunity and pointed a shotgun at the mountie's who entered his house. The article does not indicate when the police would have seized the shotgun he held when they encountered him, if it was loaded. He had the time in the house alone to use it to commit suicide if he choose, or to hang himself or a number of other methods. His suicide note read: "Mounties found a bloodstained document under his body with the words Take My Life printed on one side. The other side said: I am gone but know this RCMP entering a residence with guns drawn is an ACT of WAR!!!!! During the inquiry, Barry Benkendorf, lawyer for the RCMP, said Lewis caused officers to shoot him. The lawyer called it a case of suicide by cop. Anyone with that much forethought, planning and intelligence could figure out a way to effect suicide by cop. If that was his pre-planned intent. Or did it arise from the circumstances? No one can say but the deceased. News articles each year outline a number of such cases. It's a scenario that adds to the toll that adds up PTSD over time. Suicide, or rather attempting to commit suicide is no longer a criminal offence. While alone in his home, most methods have no public safety aspect. This man according to his suicide note viewed "RCMP entering a residence with guns drawn is an ACT of WAR!!!" I doubt if a psychiatrist/psychologist would see this approach as one that would reduce anxiety and lower the persons motivation to commit suicide. Would not most people would view such an action by police as a hostile one, a personal threat rather than a heartfelt attempt to save their life? Startled by such an expected action i.e. in wrong address police raids have seen innocent citizens shot and killed for any instinctive fight or flight natural reaction. Attempted intervention may be said to justifiable on humanitarian grounds, but may in some circumstances involve personal risk. Stories of police or passers-by stopping people from jumping off of bridges make the news from time to time. But will pose a risk to the rescuer should they physically intervene. Though some people, including Peace Officers do. I'll never forget the article about an RCMP officer serving in a far northern community. One where both alcoholism and suicide were problems. He was knows to take extra risk to avoid shooting someone in circumstances though he could have. In his last call he ended up attempting to wrestle a rifle from a would be suicide. In this instance he failed and was shot and died. He chose to risk his life to save others he considered under his protection. Clearly, he saw it as a moral choice, that as a Peace Officer, his life was not more important than the citizens he served. Some here likely recall this incident, many would remember the ethic. The ones that really do involve public safety are those who jump from high buildings. Where there are people down below sometimes an innocent is seriously injured or killed. How common are some of the unexplainable traffic fatalities that may injure or kill a number of innocent people? No one knows. As Prof. Mauser et al have noted restrictions on firearms have to some extent resulted in fewer suicides by way of firearm but have not affected the actual rate of suicides. To any but the believers in the pagan evil spirit hypotheses this is logical and explainable. Their clinical obsession is with the gun, not deaths. The tragedy of suicide by cop is about to have an added irony added by the S.C.C. ruling that the fed. gov't. must make provisions for assisted suicide, which it is in the process of doing. Many physicians have moral/professional objections as this is a violation of their Hippocratic oath to do no harm. Has the current protocols and civilian disarmament "holy war", inadvertently made the RCMP into instruments of this soon to be official fed. gov't./S.C.C. mandated assisted suicide policy? What is a difference between a Peace Officer and a para-military. We tread into uncharted territory. When we reject the ancient wisdom of our ancestors. Or as ye olde maps say "Here be dragons". Ex-NDP Premier Ujjal Dosanjh was recently on Global News and "The West BlocK" with Tom Clark urging an end to political correctness in all things. Surprising, coming from a man of East Indian origin, who says he gets condemned by his fellow East Indians for speaking out in this manner. His contention is that it gives rise to people like Donald Trump who gets mass media coverage for flaunting PC rules, whereas he would be largely ignored otherwise. Dosanjh openly referred to Trump as an "idiot". This is the argument in favour of allowing Neo-Nazis to spout their propaganda as opposed to stifling it and driving them underground. By exposing them to the light of day, they can be monitored and held accountable. Recently, a Neo-Nazi in our community was convicted (not yet sentenced) under the hate crime laws for material posted on his web site and internet blog. By Steven Nelson Jan. 11, 2016 Before retiring to dry heat and a second career in politics, Arizona state Sen. John Kavanagh arrested criminals in Times Square and other New York-area transit areas -- and one heroin bust 40 years ago, he says, inspired his new, instantly controversial bill to criminalize close-up filming of police in public. The legislation would require people to be at least 20 feet away while recording “law enforcement activity” or farther if officers decide that’s needed. Recording inside private buildings such as homes would be allowed from “an adjacent room or area” unless an officer objects. Violations would be petty offenses or, if a warning is given, misdemeanors carrying up to 30 days in jail. The Republican lawmaker says his reason for introducing the bill is not wholly related to the recent and sustained surge in footage showing police allegedly mistreating or killing people. “In one word: Wilson Pickett,” Kavanagh says of his inspiration. [READ: Prosecutor Won't Charge Cop Who Killed Unarmed White Teen] In the early 1970s, Kavanagh says, he arrested a bandmate of the popular “Mustang Sally” singer at John F. Kennedy International Airport. He had the man against a wall after finding syringes in a clam-shell jewelry case when Pickett approached and politely asked, “Is this gonna take long?” he recalls. The next day, the ex-Port Authority cop says, he was told the arrestee tossed a package of heroin behind a television as he looked away. “I’ll never forget how I was distracted by someone being behind me while I was making an arrest,” he says. “He could have pulled out a gun just as easily and shot me. And now you have people everywhere with these video cameras in their phones who are walking up behind cops when they are making an arrest.” Many recent videos of alleged police misconduct -- such as the fatal shooting of South Carolina man Walter Scott as he ran away from a policeman -- appear to have been shot from more than 20 feet, he says. One example where cameras seemed unacceptably close, he says, was when police corralled teens at a Texas community pool last year, and roughly detained a bathing suit-wearing girl. The way Kavanagh sees it, high-resolution cameras in phones should allow someone standing 20 feet away to zoom in and have a good-quality shot. In fact, he says, the distance may have the added benefit of a wide shot that captures more of what’s happening. But the bill already is facing stiff opposition and claims of unconstitutionality from the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona, which recently killed a state revenge-porn law it argued was so poorly written that it would criminalize bathtub baby photos. The fury of civil liberties advocates caught him off guard, Kavanagh claims. “I’m actually shocked that the ACLU opposes this,” he says. ------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Jan 2016 18:36:49 -0600 From: Larry James Fillo Subject: Re: France's Jews live under armed guard- Digest V16 #996 Of the approximately, 500,000 Jews left in France, thousands leave each year, moving to Israel, the U.S. of A. and some to Canada. Out numbered in France by a factor of 10 and in growing danger, they look for a safer country. Canada is still a safer country relatively speaking, but after a Jewish family was attacked by Islamist Pro-Hamas demonstrators in Calgary, a year ago last July. How long it will remain safer is now an open question. Calgary is now 10 percent Islam, and none in political authourity condemned the attack publicly. So where is safe is not going to be everywhere. And for how long may change markedly over 2 terms of Liberal government. The Islamic Supremacists have a saying, first the Saturday people and then the Sunday people. One of the Mohameds walked up to the door and shot in. A 38-year old man inside the bar was hit by the bullet and was rushed to the hospital. Bouncers and police subdued the shooter. Then another thug got out of the car, and tries to pull his friend away from the bouncers until police tackle him too. So two Mohameds are charged with attempted murder and firearms offences. How did this story get covered in the mainstream media? I'll show you the front page of the newspaper of record in Calgary today. Big story about Leonardo DiCaprio at the top. Their main story is about traffic court. Seriously. If you look on the left hand side of the page, you can see a microscopic mention: Bouncers tackle gunman at Beltline night club." Thats it. If you go to the story inside the newspaper, you have to read all the way down to the 25th paragraph before you get to the name of the accused the two Mohameds. I examined literally 15 news stories CBC, CTV, Canadian Press, etc., on this, and not one of them mentioned the word terrorism, even though the police said it was a possibility. To me, thats the really scary news out of Calgary. Not that two Mohameds shot up a bar.
