One machine gun was also seized, along with two submachine guns, according to data from Halifax Regional Police. The weapons are particularly dangerous because of their high rate of fire. One of the submachine guns was stolen and then recovered by police, while the other two guns were handed to police by people who didn't want them anymore. A third of the 340 guns collected by Halifax police were turned over to officers voluntarily by people looking to get rid of them. Seventy-four firearms were taken from suspects charged with things like assault, assault with a weapon, robbery, forcible confinement, illegal possession of a weapon and theft. "Certainly it's very concerning to us and it should be to the public," said MacLeod. Police also confiscated 79 weapons that weren't stored safely. The media/police make a big deal out of 45 firearms charges, when it is the more potent drugs on this list which are estimated by health authourities in media releases to cause 4,000 deaths a year in Canada. Most of the firearms homicides are drug gang related in the cities and the bad reserves but are a fraction the drug deaths. Drive out the drug gangs, serious sentences, armed citizens are neither afraid nor unwilling to both testify against them, nor to shame them. Their children learn not to fear evil but to stand up to it fight it and banish it. A couple of points about the city: I'm most familiar with: the first nice spring Saturday I walked downtown. I spoke to another person who'd done the same from the other side(the Hood of which downtown is now a part of). The conversation about her walk included something new from the last time she did that walk. In the 2 mile walk, she estimated 10 people on the street offered to sell her uppers/downers/crys. meth. in broad daylight on one of the busiest streets in the city. More recently, I was told that there is, at least one, (likely more?), small retailer in the hood paying "protection" money to a local gang. Shocked, yes, but I'm not surprised. After hearing over the last couple of years about "trap houses" where street level dealers just move in to any home of one of their customers and set up business. Unarmed citizens aren't going to argue, nor can they band together with neighbours to drive the miscreants out. Here is the irony, the Indian Reserves can control who is allowed on and who gets away with what or not. So, the good reserves are safer than the cities and some of the predated farm areas, too. If played correctly, they good be the shining city on the hill and be the safest, most prosperous areas in each province. 5. If the police work catching and convicting the real danger to society, is watered down like cheap spirits, by lack of deterrence in sentencing and conditions, by political/judiciary being possessed by pathological empathy for the criminal, which becomes sympathy(a moral and psych. error). Then the criminal is the victim. The criminal's real victims status/value becomes less than that of the criminal. -------- Freedom under law is a political/legal idea based on free will, taken from the Old Testament narrative incorporated into the idea of responsible government/self-government. This not by perfect people but those taking responsibility for their decisions/behaviour, who are always striving/self-critically to live up to transcendental ideals. Cult. Marxist ideology rejects those concepts, replacing it with a (totalitarian) imposed by fiat, utopia. Being possessed, pointing out the evil consequences, the needless suffering resulting from utopianism is rejected out of hand, even branded as "hate speech". Note that over the last few years of the Trudeau Liberal regime any criticism of their disastrous policies is labelled a "phobia"(irrational fear) and/or "hate speech". " To know who rules over you. Find out who you are not allowed to criticize or mock." Free speech, free writing in dialogue with others is free thought. It is free societies basis for solving problems that produced nation-states, peaceful, prosperous and resilient, in ways totalitarian regimes fail to achieve. The police state polices thought most of all. ------------------------------ End of Cdn-Firearms Digest V17 #660 *********************************** Submissions: mailto:cdn-firearms-digest@bogend.ca Mailing List Commands: mailto:majordomo@bogend.ca Moderator email: mailto:owner-cdn-firearms@bogend.ca List owner: mailto:owner-cdn-firearms@bogend.ca FAQ list: http://www.canfirearms.ca/Skeeter/Faq/cfd-faq1.html Web Site: http://www.canfirearms.ca CFDigest Archives: http://www.canfirearms.ca/archives To unsubscribe from _all_ the lists, put the next four lines in a message and mailto:majordomo@bogend.ca unsubscribe cdn-firearms-digest unsubscribe cdn-firearms-chat unsubscribe cdn-firearms end (To subscribe, use "subscribe" instead of "unsubscribe".)
